Just wondering does tranquiliity actually mean death in the Fade or is it more like a comatose state? The tranquil get branded with a glyph on their foreheads that suppresses their magic, but does it permanently cut them off from it? I was thinking about it because of Anders' recruitment mission. Death is supposed to be the end. Period. So how was Karl able to regain "consciousness" if he was "dead" in the Fade. I'm starting to theorize that tranquility is reversible. That the rite itself only supresses a mages dreams and magical talent but doesn't terminate it. Also Dwaves are cut off from the Fade but on various occasions they've found themselves there (Dwarf Warden, Oghren, Sigrun, Utha ect.) So dwarves might also be in the same "comatose state" that the Tranquil are in. And Sandal is the first example of a dwarf whose Fade counterpart has "awoken". Then there's Shale whose going to Tevinter to become a soft and squishy dwaf again.

The Chantry and Templar Order is hiding something. I know it. The truth is out there!

Or maybe the Templars and Mages aren't aware of a cure. What Anders did was exceptional. A fade spirit came out, bringing a piece of the fade with them.

That scene alone gave me hope that there is a cure, but I doubt anyone knows of a way. I'm sure mage friends of tranquil have looked for solutions before.

I could be wrong, but a cure is theoretically possible. Thing is, Dwarves do feel emotions whereas tranquil don't. Dwarves do dream, and I have yet to hear a situation where tranquil do.

I believe that tranquility means a severing of the *connection* to the Fade, so the tranquil mage can no longer enter that realm or touch it. It may be more like a spiritual shunting or banishment - the mage is pushed so far away from the source of magic that he/she is left drifting. He/she is forever on one side of the Veil (as it may exist spiritually vs actual physical locations of it).

I think with Karl there was a shifting of the Veil. The combined force of Anders plus the manifestation of Justice probably drew so heavily from the Fade that it pulled Karl slightly into the that realm, or at least so close to it that he could feel the power again, as though from a magnet. Just guess, mind you.

As far as a cure, I think there may be a way to repair the cut cords, so to speak, a way to mend them. Or maybe to bring the Fade more into the mortal realm and merge the two. Something that sounds much like the prophecy of a certain rune-happy dwarf.

Sometimes I wish Justice could have left Anders' body and took up residence in Karl's. :D

I wish Justice took up residence in Ser Pounce-A-Lot. And had an epic battle with Amalia's Desire Demon Kitty.

I wonder. What does it mean that Anders "brought a piece of the Fade" into the world? During the quest for recruiting the mages in Origins, the Veil inside the Circle tower was pretty much torn to pieces and abominations played soccer with templar heads in the hallways while demons walked in and out as they pleased. Yet, the Tranquil acted like... well. Tranquil. Why is that? Is it different when those "pieces of the Fade" are demons and not spirits? Would it be possible to "cure" a Tranquil by forcing him or her to merge with a spirit?

If the brains of people in Thedas work like our own then it would appear that tranquility shuts off the creative side of the brain and as a result the logical side becomes enhanced. Tranquil mages become almost like robots, capable of computing information and very focussed but no emotion, no ability to think independently - just concentrate on the task in hand. In the Mage Tower that tranquil was totally focussed on the mess that the possessed mages and templars had created, seemingly oblivious to the carnage going on. Earlier in the mage origin, you can persuade him to tell you how to get authority for the magical implement you require and when you produce it, he hands over the piece without questioning how you obtained it, because that would be an emotional response.

I wondered about reversing the process because of what happened with Karl. However, it is one of those things where there are anomalies in what occurs during DA2. For example, we are told that if you kill Feynriel in the Fade, he will be made tranquil. Yet you can kill both Merrill and Anders in the Fade and they wake up perfectly okay. With Anders it might be understandable because of Justice but what about Merrill? I still would like to know who originally devised the process because I am convinced that only a mage could have realised the significance or what was being done. I also wonder about the link between the lyrium brand stopping connection to the Fade and Fenris' lyrium tattoos which appear to allow some bridge to it. Unfortunately the chief source of information on this, Danarius, now lies dead (unless you gave Fenris back to him) but may well have left some writings on the subject - quest to Tevinter anyone?

I want to see this in a future Anders-related DLC. It reminds me of this picture:

Well, to be fair, Anders is a cat-person, or so he told Dog.

I don't think there was any deep meaning to that, the Tranquil we saw in Circle tower, weren't around the demons when we talked to them. Owain was alone and the girl, didn't speak until after she was saved, so like Karl it could have worn off. I think of Tranquility like getting a lobotomy, I don't think it can be fixed by anything short of making them abomination, but I don't think that would be much of a cure lol.
