This allows Bioware to keep Shepard alive and kicking with an epic ending and it also allows for new Mass Effect games to have new protagonists, new enemies, and brand new storyline.

Reaper "Your scared of me are you! I'll bunt my head up against your ship!"
Shep: I destroyed your body and downloaded your AI into my gameboy.
Reaper: OK, let's call it a draw shall we?

They need more resources ezo being the most important to replace their element zero cores from what I understand they do have limits as to how long they can work. Next they like all forms of life seek to reproduce and grow as a species/culture. I think reapers when in dark space aside from being in a form of hibernation likely communicate but how many time could you watch or listen to the same story before you would kill to see something new. Thus by harvesting the galaxy they gain the material needed to propagate their existance but also new ideas and stories to keep their "sociaty" going. By breaking the cycle the reapers species will die out (and I can finally disprove the galactus theory that pops up on BSN from time to time)

Then again perhaps the way Sheapard resolves the situation is she baits all the Reapers into the same galaxy and them smashes the hell otu of another mass relay releasing an explosion that blows the reapers, her and everything else in the galaxy to nothing.
I was under the impression mass effect only takes place in one galaxy, the milky way galaxy. Destroying a mass relay has the destructive power to eliminate a sytsem, not a whole galaxy... correct me if i'm wrong.

They mention that in the Arrival DLC

But, this kind of question is hard to answer. We actually have to get to the point where we can actually defeat the beings who have harvested civilizations for eons. Not even the more advanced Protheans could stand against them, what chance does the youngest race in the universe have?

If the reapers retreated, they would look so humiliated that they probably wouldn't return for another millions of years.
That brings up another issue though. Why would they be humiliated? Do they suffer from the same sin of pride that humanity suffers from? If they're victims to the same vices that we are they really need to cut it with this superiority crap.
They are intelligent beings made of organic minds. Billions of shared consciences.
After repeating the cycle thousands of times, claiming that they are transcendent beings of unlimited power, only to be stopped by a few puny races, imagine the pain. That would be like Brock Lesnar losing a fight against a handicapped 4 year old.

Destroying all relays and isolating your species from all others doesn't do anything. Total isolationism for all species will only allow the Reapers to harvest everyone much more easily. It will cost more resources to travel, but less resources to kill and/or harvest everyone.

Yes, I think they will fight to the end. They seem to be full of hubris. Same with the yahg and we all know how that turned out for the yahg.
Actually, the Reapers are different from the yahg. The yahg are smart and arrogant, yes, but they're so insecure that they'll throw temper tantrums and lose focus. Sovereign never thought it was screwed. Sovereign just kept fighting because being a Reaper made it find itself invincible.

I have a real gut feeling we'll be seeing the Reapers fighting each other by the end.
I'm on the fence about this.... a part of me wants this, but then again it really lessens the over all feel of the Reapers being unstopable!
Plus I want the motivations of the Reapers to really band them together in the ending fight!!!

a) Know they are the greatest things in the universe.
c) The sense that whatever they do cannot be questioned or reasoned with, as their decisions are far beyond what... oh hey Harbinger, yeah sure you can finish this one off for me, thanks. *Cue 1 hour of non stop 'I am the best' banter*
Anyhow, I don't think it's very Reaper-ish for them to feel humiliated.

I can't see how destryoing the relays will stop them. It will stall them, like it did in Arrival, but I hardly believe that this is a solution.leonia42 wrote...
Trap them in dark space again and blow up all the mass relays.. just to be sure.
Actually, the idea of losing the technology that the Reapers left for the galaxy to use would be an interesting consequence of victory.

Hah Yes Reapers wrote...
It would make no sense not to. If they retreat, it will only allow us more time to rebuild/repair/prepare for their return again. Meanwhile, they'd be doing presumably nothing to strengthen themselves. They rebuilt themself within our galaxy with the help of slave-labor they no longer had.
Well I think we need to learn more about their motivations before we can address the issue of retreating. If their motivations are to preserve the millions of minds within, then they just might retreat after all. I think in the end of ME3 were are not going to allow most of the Reapers the option of retreating.
