I've played through Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening and Dragon Age 2 on Xbox 360 several times each (several), but I've just completed one of the most satisfying Origins playthroughs yet. I created a City Elf Male Warden (duel-wielding & archer) Rogue and really enjoyed the anti-hero dynamic that I achieved with him. I don't consider his ingame actions as being evil, but played him more like Lee Marvin in The Dirty Dozen (you know, a tough guy on a mission who's willing to make difficult choices or sacrifices to win the field).

Here is a breakdown of what occurred:
Sacrificed Arl Eamon's wife (Isolde) using blood magic and entered the Fade to kill the demon possessing Connor; sided with the Templars after cleansing the Circle Tower; led the werewolves in slaughtering the elves of the Brecilian Forest; placed Bhelen on the throne of Orzammar and sided with Branka to receive golems for final battle against the archdemon (but convinced Branka to destroy the Anvil of the void and then she committed suicide; therefore no golems were created). Killed Flemeth the Shapeshifter, defiled the Urn of Sacred Ashes and killed the High Dragon. Killed Zevran during his pitiful ambush attempt, and Leliana left as a party member after Andraste’s ashes were defiled. Sten and Wynne remained in camp, with occasional use on quests. Agreed to Morrigan’s dark ritual and thus survived the slaying of the Archdemon, recruited Loghain for the Grey Wardens after his defeat at the Landsmeet, and placed Anora as Queen on the throne of Ferelden. Alistair was executed by Queen Anora. Dog, Morrigan (fully romanced) and Oghren were my permanent party members. When offered a boon by Queen Anora, I asked that Shianni become the first Bann of the Elven Alienage and my response to Anora's post-boon query was that I was going to search for Morrigan.

I'm looking forward to taking this character (Gwydion) through Awakening & beyond.

As Last Darkness says, "you're a Grey Warden, not a White Warden." I've used that attitude through all of my playthroughs. There aren't really that many 100% without a doubt evil choices to be made in Dragon Age when you think about it. Sure some companions will get their feelings hurt over certain choices, but you can't make everyone happy all the time. If they have a problem with it they should lead there own group to stop the Blight, IMO.

My 1st playthrough (before I knew anything about the game) really made me hate Alistair (I'm ok with him now). He didn't want to take the lead, even though he was a Grey Warden first then he got all upset at Redcliffe when I let the chick sacrifice herself to save her son. Alistair and Teagan both said it would be an option to kill the boy since he was possessed now, so I thought i'd do what Eamon would want and save his son... I didn't know at that time that going to the Circle would work. I wanted to end the evil then and there. Then at camp, Alistair throws a fit about what you've done. Whatever. Turns out he does the same if you kill the boy. My character also let anyone lived who surrendered during combat. So at the end I let Loghain live, he surrendered - he lives. Well we all know how that turned out with Alistair... I loved that 1st playthrough because I stuck true to my character without knowing what would happen.

Anyways, sorry for ranting on your thread here. Sounds like a very cool character you got going here. Enjoy your adventures going forward through Awakening and 2!

Here's one thing I don't get. If you're willing to make so many sacrifices (elves, mages, Isolde), why did you decide that your life isn't a good sacrifice, but all those other lives are? Especially considering that, unlike most instances of "Sacrificing your life for the greater good", sacrificing your life is a direct result of finishing your mission. Not a "Go, finish the mission, I'll hold the army off so you can do it!"

The information necessary to answer your question was available in my opening statement. I played Gwydion (a city elf rogue), but with Lee Marvin's attitude from the war film, The Dirty Dozen (one of my favorite movies). In that flick, Marvin told his band of deathrow rejects that most of them WOULD probably die on the mission that they were being "volunteered" for. He didn't say that he preferred to die alongside them.

I selected the conversation options that cast me as being intrigued and opportunistic at the possiblility of surviving the archdemon, once Morrigan extended the dark ritual offer, I figured (like Marvin's Major Reisman would have in the same scenario), "Why the hell not?"

I also romanced Morrigan and had her ring, so she also stated that she wanted to spare me herself and the epilogue backed that up, with my post-campaign character sensing her regret through the ring.
