So I'm trying to find out which step of this quest I messed up on. Going through my 4th playthrough.
At what point are you supposed to be able to ask Anderson about Banes? He dosn't have the option and I have not started missing marines.


Edit: I was able to get it working had to reload and redo the quest a couple of times.

How did you ask Anderson about Banes? I know it was a dropped sideplot from back in the day, but I've never gotten the timing right to ask him about Banes and follow it all up as much as possible.

after you've been given the normandy, when you're outside talking to him and udina. only then do you then get to talk to kohaku about it and he tells you about all the undercover malarkey.you have to of got the banes info from morlan and what's his face, that ****** from csec that gives you info about garrus? anyway you need all the info before becoming a spectre, then after anderson you need to see kohaku before doing the marines. it's not as 'unfinished' as most people claim, it all wraps up pretty solidly.

To ask Anderson about Banes you have to go see Dr. Michelle in the Med Clinic AFTER you get the Normandy. She'll have a side quest which you have to complete and once you have completed it go back to her and talk to her.  You'll be able to query about Banes. There'll be reference to talking to Anderson during your convo with her. Go talk to Anderson about it in the ambassador chambers. Anderson will tell you somethings and then tell you to talk to Kohaku at the Citadel tower. He'll fill you in regardless if you've done his quest. If you've never talked to Kohaku I believe you have to accept his quest first, and then you can ask him about Banes.

different stream from mine. i've always got his info outside the normandy but most of my runthroughs i always exhaust all possible citadel missions before becoming a spectre.

I didn't know you could do the blackmailer/Banes quest that early on. I assumed it doesn't come until you've at least done some story missions.

That explains why I've never been able to follow it up.

you can do all citadel missions bar the xenophobic politician, he doesn't turn up until later, but yeah if you wanna get it all done then you can have the citadel cleared before becoming a spectre, including banes.

There are a few that you don't get until after your first mission world:

"Family Matter" (the bickering brother/sister)
"Planting a Bug" (Emily Wong's second quest)
"Snap Inspection" (**** admiral)
"The Fourth Estate" (everyone's favorite reporter)

There's also Nassana Dantius' sidequest, she won't contact you until after a mission world, but you can go to the planet anyway I think.

I've tried doing nearly all of the sidequests before heading off to a mission world, it makes them a bit easier. Taking on the Armature on Therum is a lot easier with Master Lift!

I beleave that Dr. Michelle's side quest activates after Vermire.

No Dr. Michelle's quest activates just after you become a spectre.... I think you might even be able to do it before that.

You can do it all before you become a spectre.
1st visit - Get Garrus
2nd Visit - General info/social call
3rd visit - Blackmail.
