I've just done a complete upgrade of my computer.  It now uses the following core, an AMD Phenom II X6 1090.  All other specs (e.g. GPU, RAM etc.) are well over the recommended specs.  When looking on the ME configuration utility (this applies to ME2 as well), the game refuses to acknowledge that it is a hexa core.  It just looks something like this:

Processor: AMD Phenom II X6....
CPU's: 1
Number of cores: 1

Is there anyway of getting the game to recognise it's 6 cores and not one?

The game was made before those sort of CPU's were available so often people get it not recognising the CPU for what it is and not listing correct number of cores. It's simply cosmetic though and does not have any impact on performence. (The game isn't even optimised to use that many cores anyway and no game to my knowledge does) If seeing numbers in the configuration utility really bothers you there may be a fix but if i were you i'd gloss over it and just play the game it'll run just fine.

it won't recognise 6, or 4 in most cases. if it causes problems then assign you cpu to only use a single core for the game, you can do that in the task manager. i have to do that for a few of the older games i have, i've got a quad and some of them can't deal with it.

Thanks for the replies :) Already using the task manager to lower affinity. Just a bit silly is all, ME was released the same year (or roughly) to the first quad cores and yet it isn't compatible with them or even some dual cores. Mind games are all out till CPU cooler comes to replace the stock fan, which is a pile of crap.

You forget that a game that was released when the first quad cores came out was in design the year or two BEFORE they came out. How do you design something to use an item that isn't out or even has much info released on it????
