Hey guys, I'm just running through my third playthrough of Mass Effect right now. I've completed a bunch of side-quests and have done Therum and Feros so far (soon to be on my way to Noveria) and it just occurred to me that if I want to be single in this game so I can pursue another romance in Mass Effect 2 without cheating on anyone, I'm going to have to pick a couple not-paragon choices.

Aside from just never talking to Liara or Ashley, are there any specific ways I can keep them both from becoming romantically interested in my Shepard? Keep in mind I'm going all-out 100% Paragon 0% Renegade in this playthrough (or, am gonna try to anyway).

In summary: How do I stay single while also staying completely paragon?

this is the ME2 forum man, so not sure how much help you'll get but i'd say most of us in here have run through ME1 at least a couple times. anyways not choosing romance doesn't affect your para/rene meters, not that i ever found. an example is ash's history, that info doesn't come attached to any meters. also liaras history and the asari history, they both have stuff you'll need in your codex so you have to talk to them. just keep it formal and clear and you should be fine.

I could be wrong, but I do not think that they give out Ren/Paragon points so liberaly in ME1 as they do in ME2. Seems like you get them more for doing stuff, ie killing the Rachni queen or shooting Wrex or saving the Council for example. Coversations don't seem to trigger points for Ren/Paragon.

If you don't want to risk it go with the neutral responses, although I can't gurantee it'll kill any interest they have in your Shepard.

One way to avoid Liara is to pick her up as your last mission before Illos. You won't have enough time to romance her. Too late for you now, unless you have a previous save to use.

I think you can turn down an LI if they come up to your cabin. I've never done it (I stayed single by killing of Ash and picking up Liara last) so I can't say if you get Renegade points for it or not. Try the neutral comment if they do show up to your cabin I would say.

You just have to turn them down when it comes up, so to speak. There are no paragon/renegade points awarded during these conversations that I ever noticed. You can turn down Liara and Ash fairly early in the conversations (second convo or so, I think), and they will still have all of the other conversations with you later in the game, just not the romantic ones.

All right. Thanks for the input guys. I'll just see where it goes. Not really the end of the world anyway.

Also, sorry for putting this in the ME2 forum. Never really realized that there were different forums for each lol.

EDIT: Well, I just finished my playthrough. I managed to be 100% Paragon, 0% Renegade and completely single. Best of all, I was able to do it without making anyone sad. Though I'm sure no one cares so I'm not bumping this, just editing. ;D
