DETAILS:

Operating System:     Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
CPU:     AMD Phenom™ II X6 1090T 3.20GHz
RAM:     8.00 GB
Video Card:     nVidia GeForce GTX460
DirectX:     DirectX 10
Hard Drive: 829 GB

What version of the game are you playing: Steam download

Details about your problem:

1. What is the nature of the problem you are seeing?

As the title says - my rogue randomly keels over after being thrown back
after I backstab or use twin daggers skills. I don't know what this is,
but it's driving me crazy. I am playing on nightmare mode.

I thought, perhaps, one of my team-mates were doing damage to me
accidentally, but it's just me that's getting one-shotted like this.
I'll be fighting and everything will be fine, then BOOM - there's
something that hits me out of nowhere. I get knocked back or staggered
and I die.

When it occurs, there is a strange, black, fog that surrounds me (it resembles an npc popping out of stealth). It isn't an npc hitting me, however, as I have paid extra close attention to see if it was.

I have Googled this issue for a while. I have done research on it, but nothing mentions anything like it and no one has posted anything regarding something like this. So, I am turning to this forum in the hopes that someone has experienced something of this nature. I don't mind just saying "screw it" and playing anyway, but it's extremely frustrating when I am in a boss fight and I randomly die after spending time to fight him.

2. When did the problem start occurring?
This problem started occuring when I went to nightmare mode. I have never had a problem like this until I switched modes. Yes, I have tried switching the modes around to see if it was only happening on NM mode, but now the same problem happens on other modes as well (not as often though).

3. Where does your problem occur?
Throughout the game as far as I can tell. It especially occurs when are A LOT of enemies surrounding me and I toss a grenade or use a stunning skill (no, I do not hit myself with my own bombs). It also seems to occur when I crit or do a particularly large amount of damage to a single enemy.

4. What are the steps in replicating the problem?
As far as I can tell, this only happens on my rogue. It's almost like there's recoil to my hits all of a sudden, and it's especially bad if I crit. So far, it appears to happen randomly and doesn't happen every crit, so I can't really say that my crits are causing it. I have removed mages from my party; I don't use any AoE moves to avoid hitting my own characters (unless I use a bomb and such, which I toss AWAY from myself) - thus, it is not caused by friendly fire.

5. Have you modified your game in any way?
Yes, and I have considered the possibility that this may have done something to it. However, I have tried to remove the mods and this still happens. It was just an armor mod and custom weapon mods.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. I have had friends with bad experiences with EA support and DA2 support, so I didn't want to involve them unless I couldn't resolve this issue on my own.

Thanks

No way to know. You ignored the need for information, so no data in = no data out, sorry, it's just the way it is.

I'm a little confused about this statement - not sure what you mean by "ignored the need for information"...

I was thinking that maybe there was a combat log of some sort I could look at to see what was hitting me, but there isn't anything that detailed available (is there?). Maybe I just don't know about something like that - perhaps a mod of some sort?

Among the stickies is one that suggested "Before anything else", but you chose to ignore that.

I do apologize for not seeing that sticky. It somehow slipped by me. I am editing my first post to include hardware details and such.

What kind of party are you running with your rogue? It sounds like an enemy rogue is gutting you or perhaps Fenris. NM has Melee FF along with archery and magic. It can all hurt you and your party. Even winter's grasp does if upgraded.

It also sounds like you have an item that gives you stealth when hit or maybe Varric's shots are doing that. That fog doesn't hurt you but it can stop you attacking whatever target you were attacking before. But Varric also has fatiguing fog and confusion which will effect you and your party.

Thank you for your reply! Actually, I had never considered that it might be Fenris hitting me. He is the one companion that is ALWAYS in my party, along with Aveline. I'm going to check out this possibility right now.

Hope that is it.

I have death by Fenis x2000 and death by Varric x1 in my game. lol

I really wish Bioware would take out melee FF. The rest, fine, but not that. It is a bit silly to think my people can't swing a sword properly. I would always play on NM if they took it out. (Please see this plea Bioware! with brownies!)

He hits SO HARD  I never realized how hard until now. However, it appears that this may be what was causing it. I'm going to continue watching it and see if this problem continued...

Thank you so much for your help again!

Sure enough - Fenris is the one constantly killing me when he uses "Scythe". He charges every time it cools down and bowls me over along the way. It seems that this move occurs even when enemies are in the opposite direction. (I wonder why the hell he would be charging the wrong way) He automatically engages whatever I'm killing at the moment; I hope I can figure out a way to make him stop that...

Sebastian is also screwing me over with Bursting Arrow...

In any case, I had absolutely no idea that melee FF existed on NM. I'm agreeing with you about them fixing that :?

Melee FF is not considered a bug, they did it on purpose so why would they fix it? Sunder talent is still broke don't give that to any 2-hander fighters this includes Fenris. The best thing to do is turn off all such tactics in the tactics menu for all warrior/rogues if you want to avoid it. This includes scythe, mighty blow, whirlwind etc. Of course then it seems pointless to take those talents at all. Or pause every second but that still won't avoid the path blocked attack across the room bug.

Fenris scythe and some rogue talents can hit you across the room even if they can't make it there due to blocked path. That needs work too.

I would love to ask the Bioware person who thought Melee FF was a good idea why it was done. If my people can't even swing a sword properly they shouldn't be in my party at all. But I prefer to take who I like over forced setups. Oh well.

If you're getting ff from 2H warrior basic attacks you need to patch your game. This was removed in 1.03 so only activated abilities should do ff.

I don't get ff from basic attacks because i did patch. but they should have just taken it out completely. Melee anything talentwise will kill you. It's just horrible. Of course didn't the patch break Sunder? To the death was never patched either...sigh
