So I recently booted up ME1 at my friends house to show them what it was all about. I recovered my gamertag on their xbox so they could see how achievements affect the starting weapons and what not. Turns out I really like the character I made so I continued with the campagin.
The issue I have is I want to be able to play my character at home on my xbox. My gamer tag is on a flash drive so I decided to move the ME1 files on my friends xbox to that. When I got home I tried to move them to my xbox but the gamer profile save file is limit one. Now I don't want to replace the file and lose all my sheps I have at home but I want to make sure I can get hardcore/ally achievements with the new Shep.
If I just move the save files from the flash drive and use the old gamer profile that was created on my xbox, the careers for the new Shepards don't show up with all of my old Shepards. However, if I go into all careers I can access my save files and play the game normally.
I just have no idea if this is going to prevent me from earning achievements. Same gamertag XBLGold gamertag for all of this.
Thanks!

When I was messing around with moving saves (or 'careers' as Mass Effect likes to call them) I didn't find anything particularly detrimental regarding the profile. Let me explain (so you might have to sit through some waffle; ignore post if you don't like scene settings and explanations).
I have a spare HD after I upgraded my paltry 20GB to 250GB, and I use my 20GB for certain saves (mainly DAO characters). I moved the Mass Effect profile onto the 20GB so my 250GB didn't have a profile.
Started game, only to discover that I had no careers according to the game. However, going to the more advanced option of seeing all careers the saves were there.
Exit to dashboard and back into the settings I find a new profile had been created.
Waffle over.
What you want to do shouldn't prevent you from earning achievements. Achievements are linked to your Gamertag, and not the profile. (I have games that I have since disposed of, and deleted everything concerning them as much as I can; but the achievements are still there.)
