Awesome work AD. I may have to build a flail character now.

Nice! the Weapons of Legacy book for D&D had a nunchaku that was made from the bones of a monk.. that's got a similar look. Though as good as the bone parts look, they make the chain in the middle look extra awful. Maybe a simple rope connecting them instead?

D'oh!  I probably should have read this before I packaged it all up and emailed it in.

You're right, and now I've got to go in and remake the chains (they are currently just the Bioware flail chains), and I'll take another round of screenshots and send them in again when done.  I think I'll go with rusty metal links (yes, actual links with holes in the middle, gmax can make a handy little "torus" shape that should work nicely with a little stretching and squashing).  Thanks for the feedback.

I've been away for awhile from these forums because I've been busy. My schedule has slipped and I haven't got any content to Rolo. I don't think I'm going to make the deadline. The trees I am working on will be finished, and I'll put them up for use one way or another. Just not in the next couple weeks.

Done and emailed in (again). New (rusty old) chains, with 9 actual links in each (rather than 3 chunks with black dots on them like the original flails).

Here's a preview image for y'all...if you want you can follow this link for the full resolution image (I hate how this forum shrinks images).

As you can see, I still have texture issues and I'm still unhappy with Her hair (She just *won't* comb it out!)
And I only just noticed that I have a few flipped normals :-(
Edit: fixed the rib's normals and tweaked the geometry.

Oh I didn't think you were twiddling your thumbs. Its always good to see screenshots though. You've got many transparent textures there. It will be interesting to see it all together when you are finished.

I do *so* not wanna tick Her off!

But I've been putting update screenshots back around the middle of page 3 of this thread... with updates :-) I didn't want to flood the board with constant updates. If you want a pictorial history of Her development, look at the gallery on Her project page. :-)

But the temptation of having boney flails swinging around her head overcame my common sense <hah!>

Blood, blood, glorious blood
Nothing quite like it for staining the mud
So follow me follow
Down to the hollow
Where we will wallow
in glorious blood

With apologies to the late Flanders and Swan. Or to put it another way, I have just this instant sent 50 blood related placeables for this month's contribution.

Great work on the wrinkles. I like how they come together on the upper part of the bridge of her nose.

If I wasn't running into some link and face limits, I wanted to animate eyebrows, lids & eyes... I wanted Her to properly *scowl*, and to scan for prey. But It'll have to wait for version 2 :-/

However, She is as horrible as death beetles and corpse worms and as terrible as a slavering, starving wolf staring at the pulse in your jugular... so I'm happy with Her <wrong word, boss> er, pleased with Her except for little mistakes that I really need to fix... <sigh>

But that's on the back burner... only a few days to do at least 4 anims...

Hm. Loving the flails, Mr Purple Shiny Thing, but I think the chains could do with being more chunky. Try putting a Push modifier with value 1.0 on each ring and see if you like what happens...

And whatever you're making Rolo, it looks pretty cool to me. Though I'm kind of in two minds about the headdress thing which seems a little... tacky. Like the experimental tattoo everyone's mother secretly gets. I think it's mostly the black and red spiral things that are preying on my mind, and maybe the thing in the centre a little *shrug*.

The ring and the surrounding bits look great.

I'm probably of the same two minds ;-/
I *need* a Crown of Flowers (that is a Crown of Thorns in winter) so the cones for the thorns are big round things for the flowers in spring. That defines how I map the thorns...
I was actually looking for some decent tribal tattoos to base the thorns off of when I saw the biohazard (red & black thingy) and couldn't resist the visual pun.  Edit: The centerpiece was originally going to be a gem (that mirrored Her eyes & heart... seasonally) but that nest of thorns looked so colorful and had lovely purple hilights...
But it *is* a bit tacky, and the other thorns didn't work so well :-( Not happy with it, but I gotta get on the anims, so it'll have to stay for now.

Unless someone wants to help =)

The ring and the surrounding bits look great.

Thank you :-)
Still not 100% happy with anything ;-/  Want a beating heart light effect and better hair and... <sigh>

If no one objects, *playful grin* I'd like to add a day to the deadline. Moving it from this Wed. morning to Thur. morning. Silly me, forgot I had a dentist appointment. I'm decent at multitasking but file merging would most likely get in the dentist's way. ;)

Birdman, I can still zap you out what files I have on Wed morning if you want to get started on the demo module?

<Getting willies...>

I have no objection, but it also wont help me any :-( I'm busy all day Wed, so I'm working on the portraits now and will package everything up tomorrow.

I apologize in advance for the um, rickety construction :-( She is more "Proof-of-concept" than finished <super>model :-/ Mostly I blame the lack of a mouse, but that's only 'cuz I'm in denial.

Anyway, I'll continue to work on Her and you'll get updates as they come.

She is impressive, at least :-)

Son brought home a bug from school, a bit under the weather still but I should be ok by Weds or Thurs so that works out well for me.

No luck on the moaning wind sounds. I did find 3 heartbeats of various speeds.

The heartbeats will help a lot :-)
Especially if there is a big ol' whale of a beat and then the tom-toms when in combat...

Ohhhh. Do you know what the intellectual properties rules for that site, Birdman? I didn't see anything in their 'about' page? I usually use freesound.org (which Olivier showed me a while back), all the content is free but you must give credit to the original author for any content you use.

Sounddogs is a commercial site. The downloads are for preview purposes prior to purchase. Its like going to those old music bars where you can sit at the bar, put on the head phones and ask to hear particular albums before you purchase anything. Then someone your age sits next to you and you chat about music, listen to music together then swap phone numbers. I really miss those days. *wipes a tear*

Anyway... if you want to actually use a sound effect freesound.org is the way to go. Although usually you need to edit those sounds substantially. Great stuff on there though. I've used it a great deal.

Yeah, its the first time i've been on the site. Didn't really check it out thoroughly just found the sounds so I figured it was worth looking into.
