I've been down this road since 1am, and it's pissing me off. I realize this is a well discussed topic. I will attempt to fill in as much information as possible from here

before I get too far into describing my system and it's symptoms, let me point out that I've looked at the following threads so far.

Description: Game will not start

"      Problem Details
[*]What: When I go to start the game, it won't start, says to reinstall, I've downloaded the game 3 times and reinstalled it, all with the same effect.[*]Where: From the game launcher, or by running daorigins.exe directly[*]Why: I have no idea why, that is why I am here, seeking advice as to why, and for a solution.

As for the links, I installed Origin Beta (EADM), added my game to it, I see it in both the app and on the website, I've restarted after installs, I've installed both vcredist_x64.exe and vcredist_x86.exe, I don't understand...

*EDIT* I don't know why the spec-list got squished, but it's fixed now.

Have you made certain that Physix has installed correctly? There are directions in the Solutions Round-Up thread pinned to the top of this forum.

(Updated) PhisiX is installed, game still reports the same error.

I'm a little unclear from your first post, did you download and install the EA-Origins version of the game? Also, are you running this on an administrator account?

I downloaded it from Direct2Drive.com, one of many suggested fixes for the error message I am receiving was to install the EA-Origin's DLM (which didn't help and only cost me hours of mucking with it to figure it out). Yes, I am running the game on my regular account which *is* an administrator, I've also "run as administrator" with the same effect. I get this topic's subject for an error message.

First, as someone else has just had this problem, are you trying to patch the game before running it for the first time? If so, that is your problem. The Ultimate Edition comes pre-patched to 1.04.

If not, sometimes Windows 7 64 bit needs the older x86 version of the C++ libraries. The EADM version usually installs these if they are missing, but sometimes the installer sees C++ library updates and fails to install the older ones. I believe a link is in the solutions round-up thread. If not, they are available from the Microsoft website and I will try to add the link later.

Nope, not trying to patch, I saw the big fat warning saying that the UE was pre-patched to 1.04b, so installing that one was a no go. I saw the link to install the CV++/x86 libs and did so. I even rebooted after doing that, for the *just in case* factor. Still a no-go. As I mentioned in my first post, I perused several threads already, looking for an answer and I did infact find simmilar and the exact same problem, but the solutions there didn't work for me. If they did, I would be a very happy camper and wouldn't be here looking like a PITA for you fine folks. :D

You are not a PITA. This game, as much as I love it, can be. I know I have seen other solutions to the problem. My home Internet is *still* flakey after the hurricane, so it may take me a bit.

Irene just kissed the greater Metropolitan area of NYC, which was good for the most part ... I just have my eye on Katia now. She's shaping up to be a Cat3+ storm, all she needs to do is pick a direction. Anyway, DA:O is starting to ****** me off, I want to play and can't :(

Suggestion: Try uninstalling and then using a clean-up utility (Microsoft's official one is linked in the Solutions Round-Up thread). Reboot then install the EA digital version instead (if you hadn't already done so, have the Origins manager keep your install files so you won't need to re-download). There are so many known issues with the D2D version, that it would be easier to track the issue down without those issues compounding it.

I haven't found a solution for cases in which switching to the EA digital version and running as administrator did not resolve the problem other than one person I helped who did a fresh install of Windows which somehow magically fixed the issue. (we never did figure out what changed in his Windows install that fixed it).

Will my D2D key work w/ the EA version? I see no reason why not but I want to be sure

Clean out your start-up programs with Microsoft's Clean Boot utility:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796

^ that one? that's all I found....

*UPDATE* it won't run anyway, even w/ an account that has admin privs (Windows 7 no longer has an actual Administrator account).

*EDIT2* Origins is downloading the game this time, will see how things go in 4-8hrs when it's done downloading.

The clean boot utility was what I was referring to, and while Windows 7 no longer has a default account that users can easily access that is labeled "Administrator", there is always at least one administrator account on the system. That is what I was referring to.

My user acct is in the Administrator group and it still balked (and died) at running that app expressly stating that it needs to be run as Administrator, but that it doesn't support 'run as...' If need be, I can get screenshots of my useracct and the clean boot utility.

I'm guessing something is off-kilter with your account permissions in Windows itself. Some of the Windows "protect users from themselves" routines can be hard to find and turn off. Try creating a new admin account and running the above from that account.

GAH! 8 friggin hours to download the game again and I get this!!!!!!!!

http://67.82.154.129...reenshot.70.png

BTW, I don't speak German, never have, I don't even live in Europe!

Yeah ... so, not happy at the moment. Is there a direct link or a stand-alone downloader for DA:O? Cause right about now, I'm pissed.

D2D Version: Doesn't work
EA Version: German and I was given no choice to choose
social.bioware.com: won't accept my key to add the game (Or DA2) to my profile (says it's invalid)

I'm rather paranoid now to attempt to try DA2, which I *also* purchased from D2D.

If I were you, I would contact official EA support directly- support.EA.com. It is linked at the bottom of every forum page. Only they can fix whatever weirdness D2D has created this time.

OK! Progress! I just got off the phone with Origin's. Some *very* nice gentlemen there was able to solve at least part of my problem. According to him, EA/Origin's *AND* Direct2Drive had a mixup between german versions of the game and U.S./English keys. I had been given a German Key by D2D and was fed the EN version of the game, The En version of the game accepted the German key and installed and the Tech I spoke with rumored that the error message I was getting could be tied to the key mixup.

Now, when I plugged my German Key into Origin's, it fed me the German version of the game. Well Duh ... it's a german key! So he went and generated me a brand new key and attached it to my account, this one he tripple checked to make sure it was for the English version of the game. Then he made sure that Origin's beta would feed me the English version of the game. So that is what is downloading now, hopefully it really i the correct version of the game!

I shall keep this forum apprised of this issue and shall report back when the installer is finished in 8-9 hours.

Game just finished downloading a little while ago and installed, I'm not home right now, so starting the game (over a VNC connection) is out of the question. Will try later tonight (after midnight, EST).

I just downloaded the game 3 times from D2D with the same result Raven had. Do I need to call in to see if I have a language mix-up too? Thanks...
