Even though I started with NWN, I did go back to try the older BW titles and was horribly dissapointed(particularly with BG 1 and 2) Both were truly sub-par in comparison with some of the other RPGs I had played(mostly the mechanics and gameplay). Give me IWD over BG any day.

Baldur's Gate 1/2. I pretty much ran through both of them during the same time period since I bought them at the same time. Coming off games like the Fallouts and PS:T, I was actually pretty disappointed with BG 1, although I really enjoyed BG 2. Weird, but meh that's my experience.

BG1 - For how they built that game, the resources they had and the lack of experience it was a fantastic game from top to bottom. I really appreciated the old school dnd feel in that you only attained 7 levels I beleive in that first game. Gaining a level really meant something in that game and the loot dispersment was excellent. TOSC was a great expansion pack as well.

I played Baldur's Gate 2 before BG1 and went to the first when the conversion mods appeared (Tutu and BGT). The trilogy is my favorite out of all games I've played even now.

Baldur's Gate 2. German original standard edition, I believe - although I later bought it as part of a BG+IWD collection as well. (Speaking ow which, anyone know a mod that exchanges IWD2's ruleset with (one similar to) BG2's?)

Started with NWN finished the OC but got bored of it and never completed either expansion.
KotOR is what hooked me though.
Played every game they've released since(except Sonic) & loved everyone of them, even DA2.
Recently, I tried BG1 but just couldn't get into it.

If you can stomach the ancient graphics, you are in for a treat. KotOR is brilliant, and Baldur's Gate 2 is probably the best place to start if you want to try the really old-school stuff. They're both dirt-cheap by now as well.

I'd actually say that, while BG2 is the best example of an old school BW RPG, Icewind Dale is the best example of a cRPG overall. Planescape is not "the best" simply because it isn't old school - it brought a completely new style of play to the table.

IWD is good but a lot more linear than BG2. IWD2... never got very far in that one.

Technically it bwas Baldur's Gate, but I was very young then so I didn't really play it. The first Bioware game I was actually addicted to was Neverwinter Nights 1
