You have to unlock the specializations by being taught by an NPC or reading a book.

Since this IS a spoilers section, can you be a little less cryptic :) Specifically I'm looking for berzerker and reaver specs. Any help out there ? Where do I need to go and with whom do i need to speak and or where should I expect to stumble upon a training manual etc..

berserker can be learned from a book sold by Gorim. he's a merchant in the Denerim market district. costs 11 gold i think.

reaver is harder to get. you have to choose to ally yourself with the Cultists when you do the Haven/Sacred Ashes quest.

Thank you. Guess I haven't gotten to that part in the game yet. Although I'm L11. (nothing that I can tell leads me to Denerim yet..maybe 1 side quest)

I beleive you can choose one when you are lvl 6 and lvl 14 which means you can learn two.

You can learn templer, Berserker, shapeshifter, assain, bard from party members

Ranger and healer can be bought from stores.

Blood magic can be learned from the desire demon
Aracane warrior from an orb in the warewolf area
Duilist from a girl in the pearl

Don't buy Beserker. What a waste. Ohgren will teach it to you if you give him a few ale gifts and bring him to Lake Calhad to help him seduce his old girlfriend.

Champion is taught by the Earl of Redcliffe. He offers you a reward for your services at the end of the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest. Accept the reward and he'll teach you Champion. Templar? Allistair will teach it to you once he's above 40 approval rating I think, if not lower. Reaver is the only difficult one. You have to side with the cultists in Haven and treat the Ashes of Andraste less than lightly. I still haven't made a character evil enough where I can bring myself to do that. I may never get reaver.

Assassin can be taught by Zevran. Warming him up to you is crazy easy. Duelist is taught by the woman in the Pearl. Either have tier three coercion or bring Lelianna with you. She'll challenge you to a game. Lelianna can outsmart her or you can opt to trade her sex for the duelist skills, if your coercion is high enough. Bard can be taught be Lelianna. Ranger can be bought by the guy in your camp for 15 gold or taught by an elf in the Dalish camp if your standing with the Dalish is high enough (do Dalish side quests).

Shapeshifter can be taught by Morrigan. you can get her warm enough by just talking to her as soon as you meet her. Spirit Healer can be bought by in the Wonders of Thedas in the market in denerim. Wynne might teach it to you but I never had the dialogue option, even when I got her approval to 100. Blood Magic can be taught by the demon in the Earl of Redcliffe's son's mind. You have to barter with her. She'll give you power, pleasure, or knowledge. Or you can kill her and get nothing. And finally, Arcane Warrior is the toughest one. It's in a phalactry in the ruins in the werewolf quest. Speak with the spirit within and ask if it can teach you anything.

And that's all of them. Have fun.

its not a waste to buy spec books. its only a waste if you dont save first. ;)

specializations are tied to your user account not your character so save before you buy a book, then buy it and reload you save to keep your gold and keep it unlocked forever.

Okay, fine, it's a waste if you don't want to cheat.

No, it's blatant cheating.

Meh, the whole Specialisation system was a bit poor really. There really wasn't any point in making you unlock them other than to make the first playthrough a bit more awkward.

Sorry but how is it blatant cheating? Its tied to your account and given automatically for every other character. The other character wouldn't have to spend 15g buying the tome or spend his time charming Zevran or something. Its a meaningless obstacle.

pretty much it just prevents you from being able to play the character you wanted to play on the first play through the way you wanted to play him.

I unlocked Arcane Warrior with my Spirit Healer, then restarted and made a new mage. I then unlocked Assassin and a host of other things, and restarted again with an Assassin.

Is that cheating? What's the difference?
