Am I the only one that does this?

Am I the only one that does this? Or are there others out there that feel the same way? And if you don't do this, why do you name your characters the names that you made them? (Not limited to DA, but any RPGs you have played)

But no sometimes I use my own name. It depends on the game. In something like Mass Effect where people are named Ashly and the defult is John then I have no prob using Jason. Yet In fantasy games Jason just dose not seem to do it for me. I use Imrahil alot it was a name from the Lord of the Rings.

I don't think I've ever used my name for my characters. 'Stephanie' never seemed to fit any characters I made. Personally I enjoy thinking of names, naming sites are helpful, I usually use them for a general idea, fine a few I like the sounds of and then mesh some together, or just use one I really liked. Other times it's just names I find really pretty or strong that I like to use, there's always one or two that I use consistantly, such as Elorwyn for my wood elves and Valyssa for my tough/mean characters, although admitedly Valyssa popped up in the Knights of the Old Republic name generator and I fell in love with it.
Yeah I have used name sites before as well and done this. Most of the names I use for other characters are from my days playing WoW, and having to name alts all of the time haha. I usually steal my ex-girlfriend's WoW names when ever I need to think of one for a female character if I feel like playing one <_<

The same for me. Mostly, I translate my first name to English though if I use it,
as the setting and story of most games seems to fit English names better.
And for Star Wars Games I mostly use kind of a transcription of my
own name that "looks" similar to Obi-Wan Kenobi or Qui-Gon Jinn.
For fantasy settings however, in most cases my first character will bear
the name of Ragadurn Tharagon, came up with that name in 2002
(see the "Your First Character" thread).
If it's an elven character, it's mostly Raendoan Ithilgalad.
So, I definitely reuse names that I like a lot. But mostly not my own name.
Edit: Seems I use the word 'mostly' a lot...

Darpaek Strongarm (Ranger/Rogue)
Aeric D'Aeit (Paladin/Cleric/Modern/Sci-fi)
Hasko (Magish)
Andrae (Female)
I feel like I've just said way more about myself than I meant to. LOL

Of course, most of the time I go back and grab an older version. Roger's been around for long enough that it fits in most these kinds of games, but you just can't go far wrong with Hrodgar.

I've, at least, got 4. LOL
Edit: 5! King Nothing (Shooters - and I used it BEFORE Metallica STOLE IT! Inspired by "Duke" Nukem... I thought it was really clever!)

I usually start each game of with Hayle, my default 'good female fighter-type'. On my next playthroughs, I have a handful of PCs I will use or create someone brand new. I use naming sites, or just pick a letter of the alphbet and startmaking up names by smashing sounds with it.

It usually takes me a day and dictionary and many strikes off a short list before I'm satisfied.
Chartis, Dakon, Terminus, Jeph'ri, Jill, Terra, Felix, Azazel, Janus, Ark, & Rivater send their regards.

I always like to name the main character's in my RPGs the same first name that I have. One reason is because I am bad at thinking up names, but another is that I get more immersion out of it, putting myself in the place of my character, and having him have the same first name as me just seems to help.
Am I the only one that does this? Or are there others out there that feel the same way? And if you don't do this, why do you name your characters the names that you made them? (Not limited to DA, but any RPGs you have played)
I used to do that. But after being on the internet for a while my forum handle kinda felt like it *was* my name, since I was commonly refered by that name online. So I didn't really feel detatched when playing charcaters like I do when playing as a character with a completely different name, gender or ethnicity. I just can't get into characters that are too different - so I know how you feel.
My current character name though is Baratan, and one of my pet names IRL is "Bara" (Supposed to mean Rose in some language or something) so I really dont feel too detatched when using that name. Especially when I can make the face look like mine.

Nyruk is my favorite. Completely made it up myself.
Other names I tend to use I have put together from the "Elements of Quenya and Sindarin Names" appendix in the back of my The Silmarillion book. Examples: Dae-shadows, rog-demon... so Daerog I make to mean Shadow Demon... although I found later it also is "Go Read" backwards...
Other elements I use: Ran-wander or stray, Gil-star, Naug-dwarf, Gul-sorcery, Mor-dark, kano in front or gon in the end means commander, (n)dil at the end is for personal names implying devotion, Ar(a) in beginning means noble, high, or royal, taur-wood/forest, val- in beginning means power... and so on.... I just smash them together, oh, and draug is wolf. There is a good amount.
I do come up with completely made up names from time to time.
