Am I the only one that does this?

Over the years of playing fantasy RPGs, I ended up forming a small pool of generic names that I like and I keep using them over and over again. Some were made up, others were generated in NWN and KotOR.

But the amount of immersion it might add is always tempting.

But no sometimes I use my own name. It depends on the game. In something like Mass Effect where people are named Ashly and the defult is John then I have no prob using Jason. Yet In fantasy games Jason just dose not seem to do it for me. I use Imrahil alot it was a name from the Lord of the Rings.
I have the exact opposite where my name is rather fantasy (it's gaelic) so when I play modern or futuristic games I go by my middle name Alexander and even that isn't far from fantasy. I just couldn't have been John. <_<

Caleb, Gabriel, Mordecai (stolen from Borderlands) and Darius.
As for Mass Effect I just called him Logan. Wolverine anyone?

I name my RPG characters after other more famous RPG characters - If I make a Male Dwarf Warrior he'd deffinatly be named Magni after King Magni Bronzebeard.
Anyone going to name their Dwarf Muradin? Or their human Arthas?

Pwyll is what I came up with. A celtic legend who rules over the celtic-isles and ultimately comes into possession of a cauldron that will eventually be known by Arthurian legend as "The Holy Grail".

Well, when I played KotOR, Jacen came up in the name generator, I like that name, but rarely use it, mostly a last resort if I use up my others.
Funky, Jacen is a MAJOR character from the expanded universe. (New Jedi order era)
I normally use Revan heh. Or one of my numerous old WoW names. Sheylan, Lianin, Tesoni(As in Liara, WoW dosnt let you putin apostraphes.) Liayorn.

is one of the few exceptions of using my real name as a chracter. I find names that inspire me and combine them with other words or modify them to my liking and they turn up awesome or really stupid.

Or toss in some latin and modify it slightly so it kind of rolls off the tongue. Works great for fantasy writing too, I had to name orders of warriors for a story and I just used latin translations of words for their names. I also traveled a bit to Africa, so I have named a couple of characters after people I met while traveling. I named my pet in WoW after this funny guy I met in Ethiopia named Brujet.
