Do I trust Bioware to make DAIII? Not with EA telling them what to do, no.

I would have to respectfully Disagree with you on this 1 point while it may be unique at this particular time, trawl back over the last 10-20 years and you will find tens if not hundreds of RPG's exactly like Origins, Ok so the graphics are not as sharp and the characters, story and setting are different and the animation isnt as flashy but take that away and they are all identical.

Yes, I'm well aware of the fact that similar games were more common years ago, as I've said it's a dying breed. That said, Origins was still unique. I really liked having an epic story, with a grim, medieval fantasy art and dialogue style, deep character customization and combat that wasn't turn based, and had it's own ruleset as opposed to using a D&D variant. That combat may have been a tad slow in places, but I still found it much more believable, strategic and interesting than DA2's combat. All of this on modern technology, and with a toolset for us to mod as we liked, and I couldn't have asked for much more.

While its become clear DA3 will not be a DAO+ but either a tweeked DA2 or a DA2/DAO hybrid depending on which press releases and speculation you believe, but if this all leaves you feeling disillusioned and sad don't worry their is an alternative for lovers of old fashioned RPG's with dragons in and its called Elder Scrolls skyrim.

Yes, it does make me disillusioned, and I have been looking forward to Skyrim. That said, two things. Firstly, Skyrim is a much different game from Bioware style RPGs, and the fact that it has dragons in it isn't really enough to make it an 'old fashioned RPG'. Secondly, I've been rather concerned that Skyrim may also be going the same way as DA2, with several RPG aspects of it being 'streamlined' and several others being pretty much taken away. That's another topic. It was nice to have TES games for open-ended exploration and freedom, and Bioware games for party based gameplay and character/story development. With DA2 going more the action direction, that's a unique type of game going away, and what is left is hardly any different from the Dungeon Sieges, Torchlights and Mass Effects (aside from setting) out there. We already have those games in abundance.

What is almost certain though is that Bioware will most likely make DA3 directed by EA and just as many Origins fans upset with DA2 will be equally upset with DA3 as it seems to be leaning more in the direction of DA2 then origins, though only time will tell as unfortunately none of us have The certanity of The Qun to reassure us :D

Unfortunately, that's what I suspect too. Until then, I'll keep hoping.

I did have a thought on a good way to compromise without losing what people like about both have the combat pace halfway between DAo/2 then have both Origins and DA2's skilltrees dialogue setups etc into the the game tied into the difficulty select resulting in the lower Difficulty modes using mostly DA2's setup and the higher Difficulty modes using Origins setups if i'm making any sense.

Except that the cRPG fans who make up the majority of the vocal DA2 haters won't be happy with any game that isn't a carbon-copy clone of DA:O. Theres no way to please them because they're not willing to compromise, so instead they'll just get to be disappointed, while the rest of us enjoy DA3.

Too bad for them. I f Bioware do what THEY think is best and EA STAYS THE **** AWAY FROM THEM. then I will most likely enjoy Dragon age 3.:P

the strange thing was the idea i had for the difficulty slider giving you the DA2 system on the lower difficulty and the Origins system on the then higher difficulty came from a recent playthrough of Silent Hunter 4 that does something similar

Do I trust Bioware to create DA 3? Yes, I do.
But then again, I am from the people who liked both DA:O and DA 2 and no matter what direction Bioware will take (return to DAO style or continue with DA 2) it will be good for me as long as interesting companions and romances will be present. And a deep personal story of the hero, of course.

You clearly have us all figured out.

I don't want a carbon copy. I want something of the same level of quality.

They aren't going to use completely different gameplay mechanisms based on difficulty level. It's good that you're thinking, but that would be akin to making two different games and packing them into one. If you think disk space and development cycles are issues now, that would make things monstrously worse.

DRagon age 2 WAS NOT the same level of quality BUT it was a good game and thats what the most you don't seem to understand.

I gave it a 6/10. Is that a good game? Maybe for some, but not by Bioware's standards. Your opinion is purely subjective, of course, but why don't you explain to me why it was good? You can check out the review in my sig if you'd like to know why I think it wasn't.

I don't know. They need to do a lot of work on improving things. Enemies need to use the same combat animations, skills, and cross class combos we use as well as using tactics of their own.

The cities need to feel more alive, since Denerim was dead and Kirkwall was in a coma.

The player needs to be given more choices that matter. They should also attempt to cover up certain things better if the player can't make a choice.

They need to understand politics and tactical warfare more to help strengthen the story, because DAII was lacking in both.

Those are just some things. Oh and they need to give me a gorilla companion or bring back the Ranger specialization with a gorilla summon ^_^.

Pretty much all of this, plus a little more control over our companions, which has been suggested. The enemies need to work on the same rules that the player does.

But I strongly disagree with covering up things if they can't give the player choice in a matter. So many times comments have been made that content had to be cut because it wasn't up to the mark, so if a piece of the story doesn't come up to the mark (ie. provide player with adequate choice or a very good illusion of it, why shouldn't it be cut?) I'd rather not have to deal with any white lillies and just find that old age and a broken heart took its toll, than to find out that no matter how frenzied I am in my search, I'm always just too late. I hate that. With a bleeding passion.

I like to think that DA2 wasn't awful and would have been more deserving had it not been rushed and shoved out the door so fast. It had a laughable development lifespan and I would like to think could have been better than what we got with some more tender love and care.

I don't so much distrust Bioware to make another poor title as I distrust EA into forcing them to make DA3 in less than 2 years of dev time again and distrust Bioware into rolling over and submitting to their master again.

God, I am so tired of these threads. Post your constructive criticisms, and move on. The game came out in March, it's now September, and you still aren't over it?

It wasn't a bad game, it was actually very good, though I agree that it was a disappointment. But, being obstinate, and continuing to gripe about it for weeks on end does nothing but aggravate people.

I am over it, trust me. Honestly, I'm not even on these boards often. The only reason I am now is because a torn shoulder and foot injury are preventing me from doing much else, at the moment. I've posted my constructive criticisms on several occasions, but my feelings toward DA2 have not changed, and as long as they are relevant to a discussion, I will continue to voice them. I don't have that much interest in the Mass Effect series. Until we get more info about DA3, there isn't much else to talk about around here.

I wouldn't call it very good, but even so, if people continue to praise it, why can't I continue to gripe about it? Are both not equally relevant to the discussion?

No. After ME3 I'm breaking up with Bioware, and if Origin is mandatory to play ME3 I'll break up with them before that.

Just don't break up with them on their birthday. That would be too cruel.

Does it? Not here. Here they aren't even selling DAO much anymore (Except at huge stores where you can get it for 7.99 Euros). DAII is still on the shelves though, saw it last night when I bought Deus Ex. And there were only 2 copies left. And 10 copies of the EA classics DAO release were lying around untouched.

I'm confused.  Are you saying that your observation of the 10 copies of a 3-year old game that they aren't selling much anymore that are on the shelves compares to the 2 copies of DA2 that they aren't selling that are on the shelves that they are selling... is 1) coherent & 2) means something?

Your information was impressively baffling.  If you'd care to re-phrase it in a way that makes sense, I'll attempt to address your local store's copies of each game & how it's irrelevant to total sales.  I'll probably start by pointing out that there is more than one store in the world, but I'll wait til you clarify your point to actually say that.

Stores such as Saturn and Mediamarkt (Major sellers) offer older games for little money and keep them apart from the shelves where the titles that are selling well are on display. These older games are kept in bins. And DAO is not even 2 years old, much less three.

The games on the shelves that aren't selling well have at least 6-7 copies on the shelves. In DAII's case there were only two left. (Selling for 39.99 Euros) Which suggests that, at this store at least, DAII is doing fine. Even if not as fine as the games on display like Deux Ex Human Revolution.

Total Sales are indeed something else (As I myself have often said) and no one knows the actual Sales numbers, given that Bioware never published them and I do not trust online estimates. And reason also dictates that DAII netted in a nice profit, given its shorter dev cycle. Either way, I don't care whether or not DAO is outselling DAII, because I have yet to see proof supporting that assumption. All that matters to me is whether or not *I* enjoy a game I have bought. Whether the devs sold 5 of 5 000 000 copies is irrelevant there. DAII sold enough to secure a DAIII and that is all I want. Because I enjoyed both games. Shocking, I know.:P

HAHAHAHA:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Now THIS ****ty argument has been repeated more than any map from DA2.

I absolutely loved DAO, I was blown away by it. Didn't fancy DA2 atall but I picked it up and low and behold....I loved it too!
There is no doubt they are different but I can appreciate them and enjoy them both just the same. Even to an rpg novice like me I can spot glaring failures in both but hey, nothings ever perfect.

I'm sure the BW team must have permanent forehead imprints on their desks, they sadly are now in the position (granted, partially of their own making) that regardless of what they try to say or do regarding DA3 they aren't going to win. Swathes of their audience are so bitterly divided I can't begin to imagine how they fix it. Hellish place to be imo.

Trust is an odd word to use but I will continue to back BW DA games, their world, lore and characters have me drawn in and I honestly don't believe that they will deliberately undermine/destroy their creation.
They took a lot of DA2 feedback and produced Legacy, for good or ill, they did prove that to an extent they "listened" to said feedback.
I'm happy to look "onwards and upwards" as to what comes next!

Funny that after the horrible demo I decided to wait until DA2 falls down to the €20 mark, and I found the game 3 weeks ago at said Saturn for that price (original price was crossed out with a red marker, budget price of 20 handwritten below). Mediamarkt and Saturn are one company and usually have the same prices nationwide, so either I was extremely lucky or the game didn't do well at full price. At other places I saw even lower prices, but I don't buy online.

I've seen varying prices myself. Then there are Sales like the Budget Sale you encountered etc. that cause prices to fluctuate.I have seen the latest Deus Dex featuring prices from 54.99 Euros to 24.99 Euros (!) in various stores all over Vienna. And if you thought the demo was horrible...why....er...never mind. It's just...if I consider a game's demo horrible, I'll not buy that game. Bioware & DA or not. But that's just me.

And prices are not the same at every Media Markt or Saturn either. Know that from first hand experience.

Bioware has built up a large amount of credit me over the years, its been a nice and long relationship. I trust Bioware will make the game they think they should make. DA2 had some marvelous ideas, and it had plenty of positives for me. However it did have some very inexcusable problems that just does not speak quality to me. The terribly reused maps being the most obvious.

I probably won't buy DA3 on day one like I usually would from a bioware game due to DA2, but I will give it a chance. I wlll do my research. read review, study previews... and hopefully Bioware will not only achieve their vision, but do so with the quality I have come to appreciate from them over the years. They have earned at least that much.

That was my first plan. I promised I'd never touch it, but what can I say... others saying it's not that bad, I'm a mild person who gets over hate, boredom, too much money in my purse that particular day... Now I know I should've waited for the €15 mark, that's what the game's worth to me. :)
