I don't even use warriors late game, but I would agree he is a better tank than Sten. Usually go Wynn SH/AW GW BM/AW Leliana and Morrigan healing and Leliana using SoC and Captivating Song. I'd rather go with using blood wound and miasma for threat management and blood control on bosses.

Also, way to much effort making sten a tank and he won't perform as well as Alistair. Plus he doesn't have a second spec. WTH. Also one specialization point.

Sten's cool and everything.... but Alistair most playthroughs.

In all honesty, I don't see why a Tank is necessary. I'd much rather have my team destroying things than standing there taking punishment. I'd much rather have a Dual-Wielder or another Two-Hander with me to finish off the enemies I stun and damage as a Two-Hand Warrior. In Boss fights, I generally have a mage or two debilitating the enemy long enough for my character and the Dual-Wielder to finish them off. What's more, I've had plenty of instances where Morrigan and I stirred up more aggro than Alistair did. If and when I use Alistair, it's mainly to Taunt enemies with low health and to (sneak/back) bash enemies who are chasing me or my mages down. For my style of play, this is where he shines. Nothing like seeing an enemy raise his/her weapon and suddenly get Bashed, Pummeled, Assaulted or Overpowered. I just laugh and move on to the next.

I somewhat agree, though a tank can still be crucial if you're a Rogue. Sten does an especially good job as a tank. Equip him with your best Warrior armor and weapons and he's pretty much all you need aside from Morrigan or Wynne. Not to mention he tends to have a pretty impressive damage output.

*nods* If I had to pick a tank, Shale would definitely be the one. She has all the abilities to justify it too.

I love Sten :) I'm a sword and sheild person, so his 2-handed DPS offered alot to my table.
Alistair offered nothing new to my party except the occasional funny conversation.
Which brings me to my next point:
Sten bribes people with cookies. What does Alistair do? Complain. ALL. THE. TIME.
Nuff said.

From a stat perspective, sten has better plot attribute bonuses than alistar. Alistar's bonus is unfortunately constitution, which isn't that stellar even for a tank, whereas sten gets strength, which can help meet requirements for armor (if you're tanking on him), or just maximize damage for 2 handers. Sten is also easy to get approval up - you can get him to 60+ approval just after lothering by picking the right choices at camp, AND get his personal quest which can be completed there and then with a little bit of travel, and he can easily hit 100 approval without any gifts with the completion of his personal quest and thus getting all of his strength bonuses, without even finishing any of the first 4 treaty quests.

However for me personally I don't like sten's character, while I find alistar cute and his insecurity kind of enduring, so I always take him anyways.=]

However this is somewhat counteracted by the fact that Sten was somehow coded, just like Dog, to have 4 less attributes than normal compared to player characters and other party members. Alistair is also acquired early enough than Sten, usually 3-4 levels earlier, to allow platyer to control his attribute progression, not letting the game messing it up with auto-level. Not to mention, depending on game decisions that not every player would be willing to make, there is an option to substitute Alistair with a certain other tank-oriented companion that will have STR as approval attribute bonus.

Alistair for powergaming.

Sten is missing a specialization and racial stat bonuses.
Dog is missing racial stat bonuses too.

Alistair is nicer, and tougher.

Sten's far too pleased with himself for me, and honestly, a big guy like that should have a space hamster companion.

Yes yes Yes Yes!!!:kissing:
