Ok so I am investigating the Cult of the Unseeing Eye, I have already learned of the unseeing eye's true nature and I am currently looking for the artifact in the lower reaches. I just completed the bridge riddle and there are those enemies on the other side with a whole bunch of eyes. I have been trying for like an hour straight trying to beat them to no avail. I read somewhere to use the Sheild of Bulduran, but I don't want to go all the way back to the city to get it. So does anyone have any strategy tips on beating them so I can get on with the quest? Any help is much apprectiated

What kind have spawned, gauths, or beholders (it varies with your party's level)?
For gauths, the priest spells Free Action or Chaotic Commands block most of their disabling attacks - potions of insulation/belt of inertial barrier (if you went to Trademeet) will reduce the damage they do.
Beholders are harder because they can dispel your buffs, you really need to be high level with good saving throws before fighting them.
If you don't mind exploiting their poor AI, you can send summons across the bridge to attack them, most beholders in the original game only use their rays on PC's and just use their (weak) bite attack on summoned creatures.

They are not beholders, so I guess they are gauths. I haven't went to Trademeet yet (I don't even know what that is haha) I don't think I have chaotic commands so I will send some summons over the bridge to deal with them. Sorry if I'm not very knowledgeable about all this, this is my first play through.

The easiest way for you to deal with them is probably area spell effects. If you have wands of fire or cloudkill a few doses from those should do the trick. You can use a stealthed or invisible character to direct the shots properly, while the shooting character stays out of sight.

Afterwards, do not just proceed with the quest. This is just an appetizer for what lies in wait for you up ahead (a whole lot more of these monsters).

Jaheira's 8 HD fire elemental makes short work of beholders.

If I don't continue, what do I do? Do I turn around and climb back to the surface?

The Shield is fun to use, a trip to Waukeen's Promenade would not take long.

The merchant lady directly behind Ribald (but on the upper level) has it, inside the Adventurer's Mart. She's one of the special merchants, I think (does the G3 Fixpack add her?). It's quite expensive, tho, and I believe it takes quite a high level of pickpocketing to steal inside the AM.
If you have a mage, it's much cheaper to just get a scroll of Invisibility 10' radius, have them memorize it twice, and then go invisibly past the gauths. I do it that way all the time.
@ Virumar: If he doesn't yet have chaotic commands, would he have the summon elemental spell?

I'm just start completing some of the vampire quests so I can save some money and buy it. I'll steal the Armor of Balduran later since I already have the helmet. I wanna buy the sword though

Shield is well worth saving for, it usually reflects the Beholder rays right back at them!
It costs 27,000 or thereabouts. It is sold by Deidre at the back of the Adventurers Mart. Because it is so useful, it is worth making it your first priority if you are going to fight the Beholders.

Raistlin the Warden:
This is Baldur's Gate, not Dragon Age, where you can get bonuses for wearing a complete set. The only items from Balduran worth using in BG2 are his helmet and, at times, his shield.

I realize this is not Dragon Age (great game though) but thank you for warning me before I wasted my hard earned gold.

I've heard that the level 2 mage spell glitterdust works really really well for the gauth packs, they don't resist it, and you can just walk to them and kick their ass.
The scroll is sold by the scroll lady in the Adventurer's mart.
Good luck.

I just did this the other day. Both the Gauths and Beholders I found pretty tough because they would just gun my guys down with their Inflict rays. My solution was just to go on an all-out offensive on them first, sending Minsc and Keldorn in whilst my casters threw Magic Missiles and suchlike at them.
There was a group of about four of them which I struggled with. I think even when I did it, we suffered a death or two. Annoyingly, though you can use Improved Invisibility to position your guys better, they seem to be able to attack you once you attack them (even though people can't target spells at you). They also seem to prioritise party members over summoned creatures, though you can send the latter in and flee and they'll do a nice enough job of attacking them. Really your best bet is probably just long-ranged AoE spells, preferably quick-to-cast ones.

I forgot to mention, Web works really well on gauths - it actually stops them from firing rays (though realistically it shouldn't), whereas they can still use eye rays under the effect of other incapacitating spells like Emotion and Stinking Cloud. Full size beholders are immune to web unfortunately, but glitterdust is still a good bet against them.

Wow. Never knew all that about Glitterdust against beholder kin. It makes a lot of sense though.
Normally I just line up a few simultaneous fireballs and let them have it.
On a similar vein, Holy Smite should work really well as it causes both damage and blindness.

I also just fire two-four fireballs off at Beholders and such. And then, they're -ahem- flamed, barbecued and grilled (in the game) in a short while. However, having some potions of mirrored eyes (I think this is what the potions is called?) is a really really good idea as this will reflect their rays back to them right away. Web is also nice to use as is cloudkill or stinking cloud. I normally also send summoned creatures to deal with them, whether they be gauths or beholders. At some point, I think?, their spells and rays run out. Or maybe I remember this differently...

I like to imagine that they make a deflating sound as they BBQ and their floatation gases (helium?) escape ...

Yes, it works well! Check out this screenshot from my own assault on the beholder city in the Underdark:

With access to HLAs they shouldn't pose too much of a problem though...
