Can we please stop all comparisons between ME and Gears of War?

In the ME3 demos I've seen, the squadmates are actually smart enough to know when it's time to back up.

I think some people are really overestimating the squadmates in Gears, because the best they can do there is to revive me and sometimes get a lucky chainsaw kill. I have no control over them either. They can sometimes get in my way, or in worst case take the spot that I was trying to hide behind, causing me to die.
Ha, that was totally Dom on Insane difficulty when fighting General RAAM. He was about as useful in that encounter as an anus in your elbow.
It's probably in a lot of other games too that I haven't played, but I do enjoy how in both games your squadmates comment on your shooting. Nothing to boost your ego like an enthusiastic "NICE SHOOTING!" from Garrus.

James Vega. He's straight out of Gears, name and all.
Or, he's just a marine. Like the thousands of other marines in Mass Effect. To expect every character in Mass Effect to be award winners or the BFFs is just preposterous.

By that logic, two thirds of the whole squad in the Mass Effect games are ripped right from Gears.
Except for the cute little fact that the women in Gears of War are actually wearing armor in battle.

I know that's stupid.
Just saying even with this silly things, James Vega is nothing like anyone from Gears.

And please don't derail this thread into yet another "James Vega sucks/doesn't suck!" mudslinging. God knows this place already has too many of those.

At least Gears of War 2 has infinite running. And even in Gears 1, it didn't take as long to be able to run again as it does in both Mass Effect 1 and. Hell, you stop running in Gears 1 before the character stops, you can then immediately run again for the eame distance. In both ME games, you had to wait for a stamina stat to recharge.
And I hope to god it's true that they have done away with the limited running distance for ME3. There's no excuse and the danger of being shot to death is enough to limit how much you run anyway, and when you're not in danger of encountering a battle, there's no excuse anyway.

Yep, you can run forever in ME3.

^So every third person shooter is kinda of a Gears of War rip off then?
No, it's just that Gears of War is currently the most popular and successful third-person shooter by a large margin, so it's pretty much inevitable games of the same genre will be compared to it. Look at how many early first-person shooters were called "Doom clones" (or "Halo clones", more recently) or early sandbox games were called "Grand Theft Auto clones". It seems standard procedure in the entire video game industry that when one game in a certain genre becomes hugely popular and recognized, future games of that genre are derided as "clones'" or "ripoffs" of it until the genre has become fully standardized and solidified.

How do you know for certain? Did you get to play one of their hands-on demo things at a convention?
I'm just the kind of person that believes something when they see it. It's just that just because someone says something, doesn't mean it's true. I've also never seen an official comment from someone who has worked on the game or who played a demo and purposefully tried to see if there was a limit to how long you can do so.
I only say this so you know, I'm not asking to be a jerk. I just don't want to be disappointed when I actually get to play the game.

That tears it, going to have to go pick up the Triple Pack of Gears this weekend. I've avoided it up to this point, not for any reason, just never played. Might as well have an informed opinion.
Sure, cool, do that.
I didn't play Gears of War until I decided to buy the Epic Edition of Bulletstorm and take advantage of the access to the Gears of War 3 Multiplayer Beta. If I didn't have fun with it, I wasn't going to get it or the past two games. I actually scoffed at Gears of War when it first came out, but it turned out to be better than I expected a shooter to be.
But I did have fun, so I bought the triple pack. I am so glad I did, hope you enjoy it.

Not really.
Have you seen his steroid pumped body build, he'd fit right into the gears universe.

If you've played GoW and a friend of yours recommends Mass Effect, they're going to do so on the basis that you like science-fiction themed, third person cover shooters.
Once you really start to get into Mass Effect, you can start acting defensive about comparing it to Gears and pretend that you never did it yourself.

You know who else have muscular bodies? Every single marine ever. Including Shepard.
Let's compare the two, shall we?
Vega:
Shepard:
I have yet to see anyone blame Shepard's muscles on the roids. It's really simple how it works.
If you're not fit, you're out.
