Okay, I bought the retail card for 1600 Bioware points and now I'm standing with a cd-key without any clue where to redeem it. Help?

Where did you purchase the card? Is it a EA Games card, valued at $20? If so, you can use it at the Origin Store which sells BioWare Points.

You will need to go to http://store.origin.com, find the 1600 BioWare points selection and proceed to checkout. It will give you the option to select use your card to complete the transaction. Once successfully applied, make sure you login with the correct account information so that the BioWare points are added correctly.

Actually, it does not give you the option to select use your card to complete the transaction. It makes you choose between credit card, ELV, Paypal and whatnot, but there's no option to redeem your card. There should definitely be a proper guide for this procedure somewhere, it's so tedious when it really doesn't have to be...
