A bit off topic but why is that when they're changing the ugly default femshep (I doubt anyone even used it) to something more beautiful and pretty, to look more woman, she couldn't be badass, she's then bimbo or jailbait? Are you seriously saying the new femshep looks underaged?slimgrin wrote...

This Liara design seems to be less about specific style and more about sexualization. The only significant things about this is the large pushed up boobs and the very child like face. It would be better if the artist actually attempted to stay true to the character's original design in someway when it came to the face. Hell I wouldn't mind the boobs so much if it wasn't for the annoying face.Dragoonlordz wrote...
What? I said they have their own style and they have their own colour palettes that is fact (figurine creation companies). That is the difference between having someone like Shenzhen Chuangle or Kotobukiya even Play Arts do it. They each have their own styles. The style of design differs between companies and the colours also differ this is seporate to whether or not you think it's made well enough.
They don't have to match the ingame version perfectly hell the comic didn't do it exactly but this makes Liara seem like a whole different Asari. I should be able to recognize the character without spotting the simularity in clothing. The youthful appearance could work if it wasn't basically a baby face look of Liara with the boobs pushed up. That youthfulness doesn't match with the other very adult parts of the body.Whether the quality is upto your personal opinion of good enough or anyone else's is completley different to what I just said. The paint Palette they use may not be the exact match and by no means are Kotobukiya's works exact matches as ingame counterparts. They are simular to varying degree's with variation in quality and perception of other on if they like or do not with his style to enhance breasts and give it more youthful appearence. This is shown in everything done there not just this one, only this one looks bit younger but that is all and is quality issue not fault of style.

Do not temp the poster. We do not want to start another one of those threads. If the posters is speaking about the concept art Fem shep then they are wrong in believing that's how shep is going to look. If they are talking about cover art Fem Shep then that is a matter of opinion and it is unlikely default shep is going to look exactly like the cover art.

You better equip your fake ID card before disembarking the Normandy. You know how Bioware likes to give us side quests in bars and nightclubs.Fyk0 wrote...

Well, I'm taking both positions. I agree that the figurine is a monstrosity which should be killed with fire, but on the other hand, I think Liara is already a monstrosity whom I'd like to kill with fire, so it fits and I'd love to see it in ME3.EternalAmbiguity wrote...
I hope you're joking here, marshalleck. I really can't tell.
Full support.
The figurine is god awful.
I always considered that style of... art, a bit immature, it requires skill, yes, but that kind of oversexualisation is something I find offensive. I'm a guy, but if I was a girl I'd rage every time I'd see that kind of crap.
The design is equally terrible, it assumes that I want to see Liara as some kind of cutie, who I'd like to shag - I don't, actually I hate Liara since she became a Blue Mary Sue in ME2, and combat high heels and swimsuit-like armor annoy me each and every time.
Generally the more I think about ME females the more I appreciate Jack, because she's like the only time when the artists thought about something different than @wesome @ss & Bouncy Boobs while designing a woman

I have been wondering something but when did Liara become a Mary Sue? Seriously the only sue in Masseffect is Shepard. Also how is Liara's armor swim suit like? To be honest it is actually more conservative and hell more amored then some of the stuff your male crew would wear in ME2.
Seriously these are honest questions.

When examining the model of Liara, you can plainly see that it's influenced by Hentai. The features and physique that have been discussed over and over in this thread.
Your idea of Hentai is if anything is remotely animates and has some sexuality in it its Hentai.
If you think about it, Mass Effect is animated (digitally animated). And it has sexuality.
OH MY GOD MASS EFFECT IS HENTAI
Mind. Blown.
...should I turn off the sarcasm now?

I thought the comic/sketch looked nothing like Liara anymore so than the figurine. Yet hardly see anyone moaning about how that isn't Liara. If it wasn't for the quality slightly lower on face and breast slightly larger on chest of the figurine I bet most of people using the "It's not Liara" speach wouldn't be using it right now (even though the sketch is also really nothing like Liara either) it just looks slightly older and flatter chested random Asari sketch [imho].

People were complaining about the comic but it died down.
Also my only complaint isn't about the resemblance to Liara. It is also the hypersexualization of the figurine and the baby face look. It doesn't even depict a strong attractive Liara t'soni. It doesn't even show much intelligence. The pose and the face just shows big boobs and a baby face which is creepy and a little too sexualized.

Agreed. Figurine looks terrible. Like a child with huge melons for boobs. Liara is a scientist and information broker, an awkward but brave character. Not some oversexualized Charlie's Angel with a pistol.

I must admit I think I missed the whole comic fighting.
I don't mind the breasts, they aren't real it isn't going to turn me on. Doesn't matter if have them large or small it's a statue/figurine nothing more so I don't mind either way. The face hmm I do agree with people that looks bit too young but I just don't deem it so horrible that I'm going to go on killing spree's or do any Michael Jackson jokes.
It's not a big deal to me because if turns out not something I like I don't buy and move on, I think there will be many other versions out of the crew in model form from other design studios over time and maybe one of those will look better or more precisely to my liking more so in preference. They already released a set for ME1 way, way back and they were not very good imho but I didn't rage over it. This one is ok nothing special but good enough quality baring questionable face. With EA on board and ME3 being end of trilogy I'm very sure will be more merchandise and more character sets released.
I hardly think it's the end of the world that get impression of from reading some of these replies and comments, they come across as it was designed specifically out of spite or for the purpose of being either a crime against humanity or created the way it has been for the sole reason of personally attacking every Liara fan.
It's a toy, one of which probably will be many given the end of trilogy... It's hardly out to get people or eat their first borns like some demon possesed chucky style toy.

Style does not work that way.
No matter what their "style" is, if they're making a Liara figurine it should at least have something to do with the character of Liara. I mean, I find Liara super creepy in-game, but this is super-creepy in a completely different way; the way that has me avoiding the figurine shelf every time I go to the comic shop.

Also, Liara already has face that resembles a young girl, even in her current look.

2. True, they may use a different pallet, but moving further away from what Liara looks like is still moving in the direction of more rejection by the intended customer base (unless the intended market is Japan).
I'm pretty sure that's the intended market. That and those outside of Japan that like the sort of thing.
Liara is probably the most popular party member from Mass Effect 1 in Japan because of the head tentacles. It;s also realistic that they may have approached Bioware and not the other way around.

That's the thing Liara already has a young face this figure just makes it more akin to a younger child. It was pointless to give it a more youthful appearance.RPGamer13 wrote...

I don't have a problem with those who like it and I actually figured it was likely aimed at Japanese but I will still criticise it anyway. I like doing that.I'm pretty sure that's the intended market. That and those outside of Japan that like the sort of thing.

I would hate to think what people on here would think if they brought out a Tali cabbage patch doll. Some people might want one and buy it the rest might do same thing as here, that somehow it's offensive to not be an exact clone or it doesn't look just right enough which should be burned at the stake.
I bet the Harry Potter fans didn't have as much venom towards the Harry Potter figures like this.

It's valid to want an exact clone, it's also valid to not like another style or even don't like aspects of any you see, maybe quality wasn't perfect or not just right. But I do think people are overreacting on BSN with this because I do think will be more styles and types released and I don't think the figurine is going to attack you while you sleep or hack into your bank balance and buy/post itself for you. But don't think this was ever meant or intended to be an exact clone in which case expectations might have been slightly off, the comic wasn't a clone of ingame version to begin with, the figurine is made from the sketch and granted isn't greatest copy of sketch it's not the worst thing ever created lol.

Your not truly getting the main complaint. Its the sexualization and the face that look so freaking off and creepy even for people who hate Liara. Hell some would actually expect a Liara figurine to show her strength and attractiveness but it didn't succeed. Hell the Harry potter figurine showed a young Harry who looks pretty naive. In the beginning of the movie he looked young as hell and was new to magic.

The only problem is the face wasn't up to as high standards really. I don't think it was ever mean't to be an exact clone and people expected something which isn't what was planned, like I said the comic shows it isn't clone of Liara it's just barely simular. But the face issue is a valid one in that it's not great really even I admit that.
P.s. I also now actually want a Tali cabbage patch doll.
