Are people really complaining about how they further sexualized the token sexy species in Mass Effect?

If it would be an Omega stripper i wouldnt care, but is Liara, probably the least sexualized asari on the game, and even less than some of the humans ones. This is so out of character that is painful. I was thinking into buying it, but it became a let down

It's also designed in a fairly typical japanese style and to have expected otherwise would have been... optimistic. I don't care for it either but it's kind of cool to see another take on a familiar character's design.

To be fair, i search for this kind of statues from the company, and i found them very well done, i didnt care about the anime style at all, so i was kind of expecting a similar result and i was excited about it.
But i dont know, is like something went wrong with the proportions and the face, i still hope that this is just an inicial prototype and they look for this things later. Beside that i cant complain for anything else, the details are very well done

I think people are way too immersed in their fictional virtual romances with certain characters in a video game that anything that doesn't fit into their perfect ideological view of that character is blasphemy and on top of that there is a very large anti-anime population on BSN.

Right, because the three thousand+ comments on the Facebook post/gallery asking for feedback are all people from the BSN.  The response over there is pretty much the same as it is here; i.e. mixed but a lot of it is pointing out the same general critiques: the boobs are huge and the face doesn't look like the character.

It may have escaped your attention but BSN users such as myself and yourself are also registered on other sites like for example Facebook. Of which we all tend to say the same thing on there as do here.

Sorry, that's no excuse.  You cannot claim a 100% overlap.  Everyone is fully aware that people use both services.

Wait a minute people hate on anime here?
Wow, never thought I'd find a place like that.

Because anime is ridiculously stylized and slavishly formulaic. Also, it's often hyper-sexualized.

Not to mention they seem to like pasting pre-pubescent faces onto exaggerated-supermodel bodies.  Which is exactly what they did to Liara.  It's gross.

Movies, video games and comic books all seem to have hyper-sexualized character with males and females. It's nothing new to this world.  Beside Anime is a term of Japanese animation.

But I agree that this doesn't feel Liara. She isn't the type that tries to look good for the camera. This picture would look better with someone like Miranda.

I don't want Miranda with a little girls face.

They have now combined forces in here to spout gibberish and hate because the topic is about a) a romance character which has called (some of) the Liara love brigade to arms and B) has anime style design to the figure which has brought in reinforcements from the anti-anime forces to battle together against the single lone inanimate figurine.

Seriously people get a grip, if the art style doesn't suit you; don't buy. If your offended by breasts, don't buy. If you hate anime with a vengence then don't buy. If you don't think it has been crafted with enough care or believe paint will be bad than again don't buy. If you think it desecrates your virtual love of a fictional character then don't buy... Then move on with your life.

I would agrree, if that thing even looked like Liara, which it does not. It looks like some ugly asari with huge boobies that stole Liara's lab coat and decided to go in a sexy pose. So ya, peopel have the right to bash it, and funny enough you are complaining about people bashing stuff yet you waste your time on the DA2 board bashing DA2:whistle:

Keep in mind many of those comments by fans are actually from people who have no intention of buying it.

Therefore they are passing judgement on something they probably wouldn't like to begin with. As said the artistic style isn't to everyones taste. The figures look was made apparent from the start with the launch image and people seem surprised that its stuck to it.

The statue is still off from the original artist draw, and i would think the same if it would be an Omega stripper, but i wouldnt care enough to point it out.

Is that clear enough for you or should i explain it with apples?

If you do not like then do not buy and move on with your life. My first point stands, if you think the picture as opposed to figure is anymore real in appearence your mistaken. The shape of the breasts in the drawing are wrong even if right scale, the legs in the drawing again wrong with the figure more realistic in that regard. Shoulders in drawing again wrong, more realistic in figurine. The face won't know until painted whether it is to young or not at this stage.

You're saying it like our opinion doesn't matter. When it's the people whom the product targets that don't like the product, then there is problem. When Mass Effect fans outright dislike something Mass Effect there is a problem. It's really not about taste.

Not all ME fans are outright disliking it.

For example the person I was talking to has posted his dislike almost every few posts in here the same person over and over. Hence why I got into it with him as opposed to every single other person here.

But seriously, this prototype dont look anything like Liara, wich is a big let down for her fans.
Sorry but i have all the right to voice my opinion, as the people who are not Liara fans also have

The figurines have the same face and body. But different hair, clothes and colours.

You say that like there's some sort of monolithic bloc of ME fans who all have the same opinions.  Well, there isn't and they don't.  Even if everyone here hated that statue, we're still only talking about a tiny percentage of the ME fanbase.  And fact is, not everyone here does hate it.  Some in this thread have said they like it.  Others don't really care about the thing at all.  So no, the mere fact that some dislike it does not indicate that there is a problem.  It really IS about taste.

What..?
You complain about ME2 and preach how Bioware is ruining the series, yet you approve of an anime liara with big boobs that seems to be created for pedophiles.
I could get a migraine when thinking down to your level.

My opinion on the figurine I don't watch anime really (I don't hate it however) but I can't look at the Liara figurine for more than a second, this link decribes my reaction

Notice how she's pushing her boobs together with her arms to show them off better.

Ah, Japan. You so whacky.

I should be annoyed by this but I'm too busy laughing at how ridiculous it looks. Thanks for teh lulz, Kotobukiya/Bioware. But it's not a compliment.

Pedophiles like gigantic breasts? Well, they seem to have their priorities mixed up.

The general hatred here toward huge breasts is VERY concerning! Estrogen in the drinking water?

All im saying is you have to take a lot of the comments with a pinch of salt.  Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but sometimes you can ask the wrong question to the wrong people.  In this case as I said some people are acting really suprised by her look in general even though it was made clear from the offset the style it will take.   I do agree her face is off and could do with some tweaking.  But overall I think its a unique and interesting representation of her.

Apparently Bioware's "majority" heterosexual male audience don't like boobs.

Go figure.

Agreed, plus my whole rant earlier about the anti-anime crowd I still think is the big issue.

I am very much a fan of ME since beginning and Liara was who I romanced in the first game.

I like the figurine, it isn't over-sexualised and it certainly doesn't turn me on. It's a figurine which looks well enough made and when coloured should look good. Parts of the figurine are more realistic than the drawing and parts of the drawing are more realistic than the figurine hardly worth crying over unless someone has an unhealthy obssession with fictional romance characters, breasts, figurines or intense hatred of anything with that art style.
