I was just curious as to what happened to the cd keys that I used to have registered with this bioware account?  I used to have the games link with this account, but now they don't even show up under the list of games I can register with my account.  Did Bioware just decide to stop supporting older games when they messed everything up merging with EA? All I want to do is install my all games, but it's not possible because I can't find my user manual.

Old website from when BioWare was BioWare, not EA BioWare.

You are responsible for keeping your product keys in a safe place; BioWare provided the ability to have on-line storage as a courtesy (and a great one it was...), but that's over and done with now.

NWN2 is available on Steam and NWN is available on Good Old Games, both at very reasonable prices.

Well, the keys are in the ini files from your install. They're also with whatever they were on initially when you bought it. Or you can get them from where you downloaded the game from, mine are still in the digital download account I used to buy the game. Or yes, you don't have what you need anymore to install the game because you didn't have a backup. Steam has regularly had nwn2 on sale for $10. The fact that it comes full patched is pretty much worth it by itself.

Out of all the games Bioware has made (and nwn2 isn't even one of them), only like 3 games can be registered on here.

Nothing happened to them.

You still have them, they're just no longer stored on a BioWare site for you to access.

i don't know that Bioware has definitely said what happened to the keys that were entrusted to them. I doubt they know, generally or specifically. Their server was hacked and so they took it down. I find it unlikely that the criminals who hacked the server were after cd keys for old games. More likely they were looking for credit card numbers that they could then sell to other criminals.

For those who kept their manuals this is not a big deal. For those who have the game installed this is not a big deal because the keys can be recovered from the ini file. The people who are affected are those who have some media to install the game but no longer have their manuals. Some of those people carelessly misplaced their original game materials. Some of them gave or sold their game materials after they first installed and are now trying to reinstall the game using illegitimate media. Either way the simple solution is to buy new licensed keys from Steam for $10 or less. A pretty inexpensive price to pay for poor judgment,

Regards

mmm k so its not really about cd key's but more about the product code...(couldn't really find any forums on product codes soo i thought this would fit) anyways its a pretty dumb question but where is the product code is it in the manual or on the box itself? or is it on some little piece of paper that i probably threw away?

Usually, the product code (cd key) was printed on the inside of the front cover of the manuals.

Sometimes it came on a little slip of paper in the box, but in this case it was because the key didn't get printed on the manual due to a production error (IIRC).

What was always referred to as "CD Keys" were printed on the inside cover of the manuals. This is true of the Limited Edition NWN2, NWN2 Gold, and NWN2 Platinum, and the MotB and SoZ expansions. I don't have the non-LE NWN2 so I can't verify that one. There are no references to "product code" anywhere. Only the CD-keys were relevant.

I'd boil this down to gross incompetence on EA's part, I have my original books but not SoZ so im hoping I can find it.

I guess EA doesn't see much value in providing product support to non-EA products.

Go figure.

Are we still &@($ out of luck with our older game CD keys? Pretty ridiculous. They better not expect everyone to buy new copies of the game because...that ain't happening.

They lied about bringing the site back up. I'm pretty sure this is clear by now. Four months is ridiculous.

@KrazyTrumpeter05: Yeah, don't play. That'll sure teach 'em.

@Ziberteck: There are plenty of people who think that NWN2 is superior to NWN1. But go ahead and keep posting on a NWN2 board how much NWN2 sucks.

@cygnata: The site is not back up. Only the hopelessly optimistic (and naive) thought that it would be. So, yeah.

One must assume that was a semi-polite / politically correct jab about possible brain-deadness afflictions?

No. It was a reference to this also meritless thread.

Being PC is not something I waste my gray matter on.

Bump because I came on here looking for my CD key and I'm bummed that they removed the whole thing. I don't understand the point of registering products if the companies regularly throw it all away and do something entirely different.

They "threw is all away" by taking the server down after it was hacked. There are a number of threads on this, including one explaining where they stand on restoring it.

Depending on how you bought the game, this might not be so strange.

The NWN2/MotB bundle apparently had a significant number of sets where the keys were reversed in the package.
