But, I don't really get why people would prefer a console for shooters. I *can* understand that the keyboard is not necessarily perfect (though it does offer flexibility, it does not offer pressure sensitivity or omni-directionality).
However, I just can't understand how anything could in any way measure up to having a mouse to aim with. Can someone explain this?
I'm not being sarcastic, I've never played an FPS on a console, I'm genuinely curious how anyone would prefer anything over a mouse. What makes the alternative preferable.

The only thing that makes it preferable is familiarity, having first played FPS games on console.Warlocomotf wrote...

The PC is objectively superior to consoles in every way. There is absolutely nothing that the console has on the PC whatsoever.
And we made it almost three pages before someone was rude.
How is it "rude"?
I did not insult anyone nor did I bash consoles. Just because consoles are inferior does not make them crap. 2 million dollars is more than 500 thousand, but I doubt anyone whould turn their noses up at 500K. I simply stated an objective fact. Any game on PC is better unless a developer went out of there way to make it worse on purpose. Even if all things are equal (direct console port) there will always be more options when playing on PC. Just liitle things like the fact that you can decide your own control scheme, mod easier, etc. makes it better.
The Internet: Where anything that runs contrary to your liking is "rude".
Actually, I prefer PC games myself, by a long shot. I love being able to mod games. Increases replayability. It's the reason I'll never, for example, touch something like Diablo 3, which can't be modded. What was rude, however, was the implication that no one could possibly make an informed decision and come to a different conclusion than you. Something which is quite obviously wrong. People chose their gaming platform for any number of reasons, and the fact that their reasons don't always align with yours doesn't necessarily mean their making an uninformed decision, it simply means they are making a *different* decision.
Claiming your *opinion* is an objective fact does not make it so.

I've played (read tried to play) some shooters on a console, like UT2K3 on the original XBox. Since I'm using the mouse+keyboard setup since the first Unreal (I originally played Duke 3D, Doom etc. just by keyboard, until learning that mouselook was so much better), it was hard for me to cope with the changes, like using one thumbstick to move and the other to look around. While moving with the thumbstick isn't a problem at all, and might actually be an improvement over 'WASD' because of the sensitivity, using the other one to look around is just crappy (for me that is). I know that it takes time to get used to this way of just looking around, but precise aiming is almost impossible to do quickly. I actually never thought it necessary to enable 'aiming assistance', which I always turn off, but in this case it was hard to do without.

Seriously, it's a discussion about personal preference, not a reproductive organ waving contest. Some people like playing on the console. Some people like playing on the PC. There's no right or wrong answer, and one is not inherently superior to the other. Both have their advantages. The PC, for example, offers more flexibility, while the consoles offer controller support without additional software, and access to the Console specifc networks such as XBox Live of PlayStation Network, which streamline the acquisition of DLC.
Dude, some people even play the game on, *gasp* a Mac, for crap sake.[/quote]
Put me in that played on a Mac group, using a Windows partition of course. I've only played the demo though. I'm sure I wouldn't mind playing the game on my Macbook if I had a freaking mouse but I don't and using the touch pad feels clunky to me. is clunky.
