Why is it that in ME and ME2, that all a relationship takes is 5 different conversation and one boinking?... I would like to see a little more depth, meaning and challenge to the relationship mechanics...
How, I don't know... But there's gotta be something more than "I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite tail on the Normandy"...

Oh and here's Tali's face...www.youtube.com/watch

Short answer:  Because resources are limited.   If Bioware thinks it would be beneficial to cut a few side missions or pay the voice actors/actresses more or whatever the cost might be, then they'd do it.  If you want to make you case to Bioware and attempt to convince them that most people want more developed romance stories and are willing to pay for it elsewhere in the game, then more power to you.  However contrary to what some might believe, those of us on these forums do not represent the majority of consumers that Bioware must attempt to please in order to stay in business.

BTW the link is just a rick roll of sorts (ME flavored).

ME1: Designing the entire game from scratch, developing characters and the entire overlapping story took a lot of dev time, there simply wasn't enough time to add more depth to the romance.
ME2: Too many LI's to begin with. Instead of having 3 LI's with 8 conversations each they chose 6 LI's with just 4 conversations each. Games are limited to development time and budget so it's one or the other, not both.

ME3: BioWare says less squadmembers. Unless they open another bottle of LI's we should definitely be seeing more depth...

Perhaps Bioware should produce ME4: the dating sim after the reapers are stopped, judging from this forum it would be a moneymaker.

Oeh biotic babies! B)

Nah seriously, I hope that in Mass Effect 3 there will be more relationship depth. I think it will add to the feeling of the game.
More depth will mean that we can relate to the LI's better. Then it will be all the more tragic if something happens to them (Bioware did promise that ME3 will make us cry...)

At this point I think the friend path will be more detailed then the love path BW has already set it all up players from ME know the drill and new players may not want to talk 50 times on their relationship before they get whomever. I would hope import LIs will at least get some depth though.

Bromance > romance.
