Am I the only one who actually wants the series to end?

Jade Empire 2 please.

The lead designer of JE is too busy butchering DA right now. :)

Why make an entire universe and use it for only 3 games and an odd assortment of comics and novels? It just doesn't make sense.

Exactly.
Much better to rape it to core and milk it for everything it's worth.

Sadly, that is usually the fate of every succesful franchise.  If I had it my way, more games would be released, but maybe in different genres.  However, I would hate to see Mass Effect suffer the same fate as Call of Duty.

Indeed.

I too would love the franchise to continue (despite my criticisms I do love the setting) but I just don't trust EA or Bioware to do it justice thus I'd rather it just end with ME3.

Damn. Maybe they'll take a break from working on Dragon Age and get to work on a Jade Empire sequel someday soon

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Out of all the possible endings, I am seriously going to vomit up a lung if they go anywhere near that ending.

On topic, I would like to see more of the ME verse, there is definitly room for more exploration into it.

well, this isn't quite on topic, but I'm going to have to agree with The Matrix 3 sucking (the latter two films in the trilogy were such a disappointment).

As in, having ME3 be the final entry into the series, sans possibly another novel or comic series. I think I'd prefer the team to start working on an entirely new universe, or one they haven't worked on (in a while).

Down the line? I don't mind more Mass Effect. After ME3, I would like to see Bioware go back to original IPs again.

You're not the only one. The last thing I want to see is Bioware becoming another Blizzard. Doomed to be stuck with the same three labels for all eternity.

Diablo. Warcraft. Starcraft. Yeah, I see what you mean. But in Blizzard's case, it doesn't help that it took them six years to release a non-WoW related product.

I'm positive to the fact that ME3 will end Shepard's story, one way or another. However since the Mass Effect Universe is quite interesting, there could be a lot of more different stories to tell. I don't hope we get a spin-off series covering the adventures of one of Shepard's crewmates, or something like that.

But they could be different genres as well. Like a true RPG... (please NO Diablo-clone!)
I don't really like the idea of it becoming an MMO, but that is probably the most likely scenario...

Agreed.

They should try their hands on an open world game or a game that ISN'T a RPG. Want people to stop thinking Bioware is JUST a RPG developer? Go create a great action game like the Assassin's Creed games or Red Dead Redemption. The possibilities are endless. :wizard:

word. Matrix Revolutions-style copout ending would be a disaster of monumental proportions. That was the worst ending I've ever seen. I'd rather the machines win than have some gorram truce.

Same with Mass Effect. I'd rather the Reapers win no matter what than have some BS truce ending.

Oh that's what happened?

I thought Neo just hit the reboot button and started the simulation over and put off the final outcome.

Pfft my version was better than that.

I think Shep's story will be be over after ME3. But the IP has plenty of room for stories with a different protagonist.

Sure. Id welcome more. Just like I welcome more Harry Potter novels. Am I sad that there aren't any more on the horizon? Not really. What we have is more than enough.

well the reset button is part of it, yes... but they spared Zion (all the previous times, they destroyed it except for what, like 23 people or something?) and the machines agreed to let the unbeliever humans leave the matrix freely.

Short answer: yes, I want it to end. But I'm sure EA won't let that happen. I can accept a break to focus on other stuff, though. But honestly, I think Bioware is gonna end up as EA's assembly line of ME and DA games.

There should be a group for people who want the series to end in ME3.
So yeah, i agree. ME should just go out with a bang.
It´s better to quit when you are at the top.

But maybe... Maybe in 20 years...

I have mixed feelings. When Shepards story is finished I'm happy. But I'm certain we'll see more games... and I'm fine with that as long as they don't make multiplayer focused games.

I want the series to continue, it doesn't have to be in the same form as the current games.

I am particularly fond of the citadel detective idea one of the heads of Bioware came up with on the spot. Sounds like fun to me.

I just hope they're able to finish it in a way, that's to my liking, else my ME already ended with ME2.

I would like to see more games in ME universe, but they should have different type of gameplay. Also ME team should take a break after ME3 and make game in some different setting.

When Neverwinter Nights 2 came out people said the same for that series, even Deus Ex had a few articles about just ending the series after Invisible War came out. Maybe its just because at the time those game series were out they weren't as popular but still, I'm glad they made Deus Ex Human Revolution and I wouldn't mind if they made another game in the Neverwinter universe (and I think they are or so I've heard.)

So yeah, to be honest I kind of disagree, on the other hand though I suppose I wouldn't mind if they stopped making games then came back to the series years and years later so it was fresh and more anticipated. In fact that would be a great idea and I'm glad you made this thread.

Am I the only one having a hard time not bashing threads titled "Am I the only one [insert oxymoron here]?

Alright, sorry for that. ME3 will end the Shepard story, and I hope BioWare lets go of the series. EA will undoubtedly milk the franchise till its rotten and shaking, but I'm sure the father will do the right thing.

I certainly want it to be the end of Shepard's story, but I have no quam against another, smaller game being released that is related to the Mass Effect Universe. Certainly not another trilogy though, nothing can top Shepard.

I'd like it to finish. Beyond Shepard and the Reapers, the ME universe is pretty unremarkable.
