Nothing new. It's probably the most common problem being posted about on the various tech boards over the past few weeks. If you had looked further down you'll have seen the other thread. There are certain suggestions, but nothing seems to be a definitive solution.

Depending on your internet connectivity though, you may want to check that as well if you are using a wireless connection.

I played through the whole game once, all connected and everything. But when I tried to replay the game making a new character I started to get that same error message (the ea servers are no longer available) I did a lot of button mashing and was able to get the menu to come up so I could play the game without the server. What is the ea server actually for, and why do we connect to it? Is it a bad thing that we can't connect to it if we can still play? Will it mean I can't download any further downloadable content than that which I have already done? Has anyone figured out a fix for this. I have a hardline (Firewire) connection from my xbox directly to my cable modem for the internet, my time is correct on my x-box, and I can't figure out who to call at ea to ask the technical questions or get support. Any help would be appreciated!!

My answer with respect to a solution to the inability to connect to the EA servers remains the same. EA support is the official support line and you can link to it either through my sig (I'm getting lazy at cutting and pasting) or at the bottom of any page of the forum here.

What the server does with respect to DAO is update the site here with certain information. It enables the site here to have a story progress of your characters, it allows the game to upload characters to this site here as well (which I presume is why quite a few users here including myself are using their characters as their avatar). Depending on the edition of the game it also allows the authentication of your dlc so you can use it. Strictly 'speaking' the servers aren't needed for purchases as those are made on XBox Live marketplace. DAO can be played offline with all dlc intact. I game offline almost exclusively unless I want to make a purchase.

I will pose the same question I have posed to some others who are having this problem: is there any reason why you can't play offline and have to be connected?
