Hi

Just installed Mass effect 1 for the first time but keep getting a general protection fault

Problem specifics :
1.  It’s important to identify which product is experiencing the problem.

  a.   Is it the console version or the PC version?
PC Version
  b. Media: physical disk or digital download (and which vendor) Physical disk (cant remember where from though tbh via Amazon I think)

2.  System Details

  a. Processor / Core count / Core Speed / Main RAM Amount
Intel® Core™ i7 CPU         920  @ 2.67GHz
1 Cpu, 4 Cores, Clock speed 2673 MHz
Ram 2.99 physical/1.83 availible/1.14 used

  b. Display Adapter / VRAM / Driver Version (just saying "latest drivers" doesn't help -- Edited: only ATI / nVIDIA cards are supported)
ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
ati2dvag.dll CATALYST 11.2 [6.14.10.7164]

  c. Sound Adapter / Driver Version
SB Audigy Audia [e880]
ctaud2k.sys [6.0.1.1241]

  d. Operating System (& service pack if applicable)
XP Service pack 3

  e. Direct X Version
DirectX 9.0c (Mar2009) or later

3.  Problem Details

  a.  When it comes to problem details, think about the five basic questions: Who? What? When? Where?  Why? Okay, so “Who?” doesn’t really apply here, but the others do.

  b.  What?  What is the nature of the problem that you’re seeing?
General Protection Fault

  c.  When?  When does the problem occur? Every time you engage in a particular action or only after so many hours of play? Whenever trying to start game

Each time getting the same General Protection Falutl

"History : GMatrix2D::Swap() Address = 0x10bd45b (filename not found)
Address = 0x245c8b53 (filename not found"

Have uninstalled and reinstalled but no luck,

Hoping for some suggestions ?

Ta,

A.

Did you install the latest patch? if not you can get it here http://news.bigdownl...ct-v1-02-patch/ install this see if you have any joy. If not you can try running the game as admin by right clicking and selecting the option and the third solution i can offer is updating to some newer catalyst drivers and seeing if that works. Good luck!

Appologies for being a little dense :-) but I've seen multiple references to runing the gam as an Admin but when I right click on the launch icon I dont have any such option (that I can see anyway)

Admin is usually for Vista and win7, while you are running XP.

In XP, depending on how its set up, when you right click on an icon, the second option from the top could be listed as "Run As...", select that and then you can click on administrator.
