I take it many people here haven't played FemShep in Mass Effect 1 then? Her walking and running animations were not girly, nor were they the same as Male Shep's animations.

For the 100th time, this. ME1 had it perfectly balanced. Why BioWare decided to change it for the absolute worse remains one of the greatest unresolved mysteries of our lifetime.

I *really* hope they don't make these types of mistakes with ME3.

For the 100th time, in ME1 both Sheps had the same walking, running and sitting animation.

And? So what? It looked better. The end.

Actually, they were the exact same animations.  The difference in size and gender between Shepars created the illusion that they were different and that femShep moved more like a woman.

If they can recreate that illusion again, I will be a happy panda! Image IPB

Yeah, I'd rather an illusion than it being blatantly obvious.

Also, FemShep had more of a curve near where her butt started in the first game, what happened to that?

And, as you say, it looked good even though they weren't sex-specific.
So sex-specific animations are not needed. Gender neutral animations like those in ME1 are fine.
The end, indeed. May you say that to all the people demanding sex-specific animations as well?

I don't think gender specific animations are needed. It's a lot of work, and frankly they wear an armor most of the time, it wouldn't be that noticeable. Besides, overly feminine gestures wouldn't fit Shepard's character at all. In my humble opinion. Neutral animations are fine. The only issue is her size, but in ME2 I wasn't bothered by the poses. Then again I never wore Kasumi's dress outside of her mission.

Fem Shep should cross her legs at least when she sits down. Even masculine women do that.

Otherwise I think her masculine traits are fine. She's a soldier, not a flight attendant.

You have the eye of a Hawk.
Or maybe a frat boy.
Same thing.
Bring it back, anyway.

How hard is it to have multiple motion captures? Couldn't you just have a girl and a guy doing the same animations at the same time? Besides, not all scenes would need it. Besides sitting, running, walking, hugz, and dancing, what else would need multiple animations?

OP:

Well your wife has a valid point :P Many of her ehm, poses does look rather manly. I mean, if I saw a chick such as that in a bar I would go all stereotypist and think "******". I would still nail her though, if she, despite me thinking she is a ******, happened to be into men lol :P Beergoggles ftw

She's a marine not a barbie doll but the way she sits sometimes could be worked on.

femShep shouldn't move exaggerated feminine, but she should move like a woman. Women don't move like men. It's a center of gravity thing. They should think more of a female soldier or female athlete (like a futbol/soccer player type). She shouldn't lumber forward like a gorilla or sit like a gorilla - I was waiting for her knuckles to rest on her leg while she was wearing that dress.

How hard would it be to have her move like Aria or Morinth or even Liara? It's a stupid script. It's one of those 1 for male, 0 for female things in a script. If g=1 do gait = 1. If g=0 do gait=0 or whatever. They got lazy with it.

I think Aria is a good example of how Femshep *should* act.

Woo, what a catch.

If serious. One would think you could only be that vapid on purpose, but I always keep getting proven wrong.

I tried typing in "frat boy" and "douchebag" to find a fitting picture for him, but was insulted by some unnerving pictures.

I think Shepard does that while boozing with Chakwas.

Great example.

Aria has a somewhat masculine look and persona, but she's also got some feminine mannerisms. She crosses her legs when she sits, for example.

Strong, athletic but still feminine.  Maybe a tad less muscular but otherwise I wouldn't complain if femshep were modeled after the woman pictured above.  Jessica Biel comes to mind when thinking about a very beautiful and feminine body that is also althletic and toned.

I've seen plenty of military women as I've served in a military and I can say that the most successful army girls were the most masculine ones. Those who wore makeup on leave and had pretty artificially colored hair tended to be attention seekers in a male dominated minisociety. Not saying that they were inferior, but we're talking about a high-class commander here saving the galaxy.

I would say it's a fact that a woman like Shepard, who sees death in every day of her life, becomes more crude, masculine and blunt as the days pass on. Of course it's a man's utopia to have a girly girl who can kick ass but they are in a minority. A real small minority at that.

A recurring joke among us was that some women came to military because they were too ugly to get men in civilian life. Living among men, any woman is a welcome sight after two weeks in the jungle.

I will be happy if they fix the way she sits, and if they can make her run/walk in a way that looks natural. It does not have to be excessively feminie it just has to look natural. Because in ME2 she runs like a gorilla. If they can make it look like it did in ME1 I will be happy.

We don't know necessarily if the universe is a mantopia....The most "advanced" (for sake of argument) race is the Asari and they represent a good portion of female humans.

You would think that after all the famales that played ME1 BioWare would at least give femshep her own walk and not the same limp for both genders, and even the same animations as the male; that's where the sitting with her legs open comes from.

Gender specific animations for walking and running would be sufficient for me. I find the shared animation rigs for cinematics acceptable.
