I've been trying to do a minimalist playthrough just for a change of pace; I've left Grunt in his tank, have Legion on board but he's not been activated, didn't recruit Kasumi and Garrus is my only loyal squad mate (for the romance).

I accidentally recruited Zaeed during the early stages of the game and decided to keep him around. I've attempted the suicide mission but no matter how I seem to play it out only Garrus ends up surviving - thus my Shepard falls to her death.

Is it possible to have Garrus and Zaeed survive? I've looked at suicide mission guides/charts that list out what squad member is affected by which choices, but with an unloyal Zaeed and pretty much everyone dead by the final encounter I'm still not entirely sure how I could keep him alive.
During my playthrough only Miranda was left to hold the line during the final fight and I had Garrus and Samara with me. If I Manage to keep Zaeed alive until that point, would leaving him to hold the line with Garrus be enough to have him survive? Or do you need 3 people for an unloyal character to make it at that point?

The only reason I haven't simply made another character loyal is because I'd also like to know (in the case an unloyal Zaeed can survive the suicide mission) if it's possible to kill off Zaeed during his loyalty mission after the suicide mission if he and Garrus are the only squadmates left. So in that case I'd be left with one squadmate for Mass Effect 3.

Sorry if that all sounds a bit confusing; I suppose the jist of it would be do any of you know what sort of squad setup I'd need to have for one unloyal crew member to survive the final mission (along side a loyal Garrus)?

there's a 'complete' plan for this in this forum, the third thread from the top. has complete maps for saving only specific team mates.

Gah, sorry for the pointless thread then. I was actually using that page as a guide but for whatever reason didn't notice the links at the bottom. Thanks for the info.

I just managed the playthrough with only Garrus and Zaeed surviving, but it seems impossible to get Zaeed killed through his loyalty mission after that. Oh well, I actually quite liked Zaeed anyway.

nice av btw, did your geth just get busted looking at porn to? lol. anyways you can kill Zaeed at the end of his loyalty mission, regardless of when you do it. i haven't done it, i didn't loyalty him, i'm not really into him, merc for hire and all that, but i can't bring myself to kill him. maybe afraid that the limey **** will actually survive and come find you one day riding a reprogrammed reaper powered by the ghosts of the ex council lol.

Nah, he's just hoarding all the cookies ;)
And I went and did Zaeeds' loyalty mission when it was just him and Garrus left; at the end when he's stuck under a beam the only options I had were to save him. Had a blue paragon option that I'd assume would talk him into being loyal even though Vido got away, a regular paragon option and then a neutral option. No renegade 'leave him for dead' stuff. :/ I found a youtube video that manages to get him killed when it's only him and Kasumi left, but the guy says his game was glitched, so it's not looking like I can do it with a regular playthrough.

Hahaha I could totally see that.

In response to the first post, no, unfortunately there's no way to end Mass Effect 2 with only a single squadmate remaining. You need to have at least two squadmates to have your Shepard survive, and if he/she doesn't survive, well, obviously you won't be able to recover that game into ME3.
