I recently heard Hudson say that in a 'war stor' the idea of a permanent squad member is a strange thing so what exactly did he mean by that and what implications will it have?
Will the idea of permanent Squad member even be applicable to ME3?

People die, sorta hard to be permanent when you're dead.

Also consider that we now have a whole crew of people on the Normandy that could command their own ships and missions in their own right. You never put all your generals in the same boat.

I guess what it means, concretely, is that there will be more heavily scripted missions where specific characters play a significant role, meaning the squad members are less interchangeable at any given moment of the game.
In turn, that means you don't really need a big reserve of characters to choose from, so they can come and go a bit more, thus lending a more dynamic feel to the proceedings, i.e. you don't just recruit Garrus and then he sits there until you need him. Just a guess, though.

It probably means that not everybody will be available on every mission, and most characters will either leave you for periods of time or leave your squad entirely at some point in the game.
I'm not sure if this is a good idea for new characters though, as we'll need as much time as we can get for character development- but then I suppose we only got 2-3 conversations with the Mass Effect 2 crew.
I just hope that we get the opportunity to speak to all of the main characters just before, during, or after the finale. I want some form of closure to the relationships/friendships/rivalries I made during the games.

I don't know why but I found this to be hilarious! I think that I thought about if the ship was blown up, anyone really worth something militarily would be dead, and you would be left with a bunch of low ranking officers, unable to finish what everyone else had started.
