Shepard: I did it to save lives. Human live, Asari lives, Turian lives, Salarian lives, Volus lives, Elcor lives, Krogan lives, Quarian lives, and yes, even to try to save even more Batarian lives. I don't know if you've noticed, but there's a galactic war for simple survival. All rules go out the window. It delayed the Reapers by a several months and bought us some time to prepare and try to set aside differences.

AJ: But you didn't warn the Batarians.

Shepard (orange): What the hell would less than 20 minutes warning do? Would you want to spend your last 20 minutes in sheer panic? That's all the time we had before the Reapers arrived in that system, and if they'd gotten to that mass relay, you wouldn't be standing here. (looks in camera) None of you would be here.

You need people like me out there. Humanity needs people like me out there to make the hard decisions. Every single race in this galaxy has someone to make these hard decisions: the decisions where you can't consult with superiors, where you have one shot, and if you fail, all of life as we know it is gone. That's what Spectres do. Yes, I sent that asteroid into that Mass Relay, and I'd do it again, and again, and again.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to get to my ship. You've wasted enough of my time. You've wasted enough of the galaxy's time.

Shepard (blue): I did everything I could to warn the Batarian colony on Aratoht. And even if I had succeeded, it wouldn't have made any difference. The Reapers were minutes away from arriving, too little time for an evacuation to have saved any lives.

Destroying that relay was the hardest thing that I've ever had to do, but make no mistake. It had to be done. I sacrificed those 300,000 lives to give every other being in this galaxy a fighting chance, and I'll fight til my last breath to make sure their lives were not lost in vain.

I've never punched her (I think it's beneath Shepard to resort to physical violence with a civilian), but I still think it's hilarious when I see other people's characters do it.

Shepard: The Batarians lost 300,000 live that day: Bill, Jarod, Fred, Luke, Samantha, Alice, Tiny Tim, Babaganoosh, Gornfax, Terry, Carolyn, Stinkercuss III, the entire Whenfort Family, Spanky, Jeff, Cyndy Lou, Yap, Sarah, Flapper, Gail, the banana brothers,.............................................................................................. and, yes I remember them all. Everyone in the Batarian system is hero. The Alliance owes them all Suckers. The Council owes them less than that.......and so do you.
