I suspected this might happen. Once all the fury died down there would be little benefit to restarting the old forums. It would just create a second round of outrage when they were officially closed.
So I'm thinking that they are not coming back online... And it has been a long time since they went down.
Old forums gone for good?

That may be the ultimate response, Banshe, but the primary reason they are offline and the official word is due the servers being hacked. That's why we all had to get new login passwords and reset them. It's also why the authentications servers for MP are down. And, it appears, the old "Legacy" forums were archived and stored on this very same server.
This is affecting, IIRC: NWN, NWN2, Jade Empire, and another one or two games that had their forums in the legacy area before EA consumed -- errm -- purchased Bioware.
My primary concern at the moment is that Bioware somehow provide access to those old archived forums so we can copy them and preserve them online as archives for anyone interested in RPGs like these. That data could also be used to cull old ideas and implement, as well as provide a wealth of data on all sorts of online social behaviors. We have some of the best and some of the worst discussions in those old forums.
It could be used to accurately reflect the "history" of the growth of online communities -- you cannot compare and contrast without something to compare it to in an article, right?
There are many more valid points I can bring up, but I think just those ones right there make it a worthwhile endeavor. Lastly, I would argue that while a company is a for profit enterprise, the Corporate World has already pitched that they should be viewed as people. If they want that privilige, then they have to uphold their civic duties. A promise to be available lasts until neither party wants it to, or there are no more parties, or for a specific period of defined time that both sides of a party agree to or stipulate.
If I were to grant the argument that Corporations (re: businesses and not their owners) were legally entitled to the privilige of being a person, then I would hold them to the responsibility under penalty of law to keep their word. Is that out of bounds as an argument? Maybe a topic for the Off Topic Forums.
In any case, I think we all would like to see that information made available somehow and that we would all like to have Bioware maintain it's customer centric attitude as it's been doing for so long.
As soon as someone gets back in touch with me (and I do have to PM them) I will find out more and then, as far as I may, I will let you all know what's going on with this.

Hi, you can try starting here:

Seems to randomly have some pages and not others.
This may be the last complete snapshot:
