I am convinced this fight is bloody impossible on Nightmare.  What were you smoking when you made this fight Bioware? The assassins are throwing somersaults all over the place while I can't dps them at all, all the while reappearing and one shotting a 250 HP character. It is down to a coinflip to win this fight. If the assassins choose to wtfpwn my dog instead of my characters, I might have a 1% chance of winning. Otherwise, it's impossible.

I am waiting for someone to disprove me. This is my party: Fenris, Aveline, Mage Hawke (Elemental/Force) and Anders (Healer/CC)

First thing is that DO NOT challenge people on the gameplay forums like this. The only thing you'll manage to do with it will be starting volcano level flames.

Anyway, to your issues:
1st check mr_afk's thread about dealing with rogues (I think it's his at least).
2nd optimize your party composition. No rogue?
3rd check the guides on these forums for out-of-the-box good character builds if you're having issues with their effectiveness (I assume so, since you're not able to cc with a tank and force mage)

Keep in mind that nightmare difficulty assumes prior knowledge and experience with the game and requires a fair bit of metagaming.

So for one, it's not impossible many of us have beat it. So heres some general advice.

-Loose Fenris, I mean really on nightmare? You need a rogue!
-Force mage is VERY good against assassins. Pull of the abyss and telekentic burst to help CC, when they are all unsealthed and together drop a big ole gravitic ring.
-All elemetnal spells will ruin an assassins stealth. Nuke were they are when they go invis.
-Horror and Petrify. Enough said.

I don't really remember the exact size of the level were you fight these guys but remember that Nghtmare requires a lot of micromanaging. You need to get all your weaklings fr away from them and hope like hell they go for Aveline. Gve her fire resist runes and nuke like a madman, you should be able to get a lot of them out of steath and then CC them. As a rule of thumb for any fight with lots of nasty rogues(Brekker grrrr), AS SOON as they unstealth and you can and a CC, do so. Once a assassin is controled any good ranged CCC will help. This would also be the time to pop Haste and go to town with 2 elemental saves that they are weak too.

It should be mentioned that this is hard without knowing your exact ability setup. Keep in mind that Nightmare is meant to be very difficult and that sub-optimal party setups, gearing, or character building will make things much more difficult!

Run as far as you can, if everything else fails. It is enough room there for it. Most of them will go for Zevran and you can safely pick them one by one as they'll follow your group.
Fenris is great for CCC set-up with Stagger, I just beat the very same battle om NM with the group Fenris-Merril-Anders + Hawke-duel-wielding rogue without anybody dying.

ps I'd exchange Fenris or Aveline for Isabela, if you have her. Or any other rogue.

I found this fight hard and difficult even on casual. I won by simply running away. If you have Isabella as I had (I think?) Izzy is really, really good her. She can hide in shadows, kick miasmic flasks that'll stun people. evade and stun people.

Another thing, I found helpfull was to invest in buying grenades and bombs, and Crow Venom. Two daggers dipped in Crow Venom can do a lot of damage, especially if Isabella (Izzy) is ablt to hit them hard and quick.

Also, if you develop Izzy's special abilities you can develop her to be real help for the party. The special activites includes things like Goad and the like, an ability to turn an enemy away from an alley (if tthis is not Goad?)...

Varric, I actually found quite usefull as well; you can also develop his own personal skills like Bianca's Song and the like. Power and Speed are also nice talents to have. Then there's the arrow that does a lot of damage that I have forgotten what is called right now? ---also hails of arrows is really usefull....

Fenris should be developed as a warrior with scythe and all the talents in the 2H-weapon tree...Whirlswind is great here. As are Fenris's ability Lyrium Ghost and its upgrade. This'll stun most enemies, and Fenris then can do a whirlwind or scythe.

Of course, if you play nightmare, you already know this ;)

This fight is more than doable on nightmare it's just a pain in the ass. There are various videos from forumites like Arelex and mr_afk etc floating around as evidence.

If you're playing a Force Mage Hawke you should already have crowd control in the bag. But as Sabotin and Brock22 pointed out, no rogue? Something to look at.

So pull of the abyss + gravitic ring + firestorm/walking bomb isn't working for you?

Having melee party members may make things a little more difficult, but as long as you have anders there to help provide dual haste + firestorms etc it shouldn't be too impossible.

I would recommend a little bit of microing so your warriors don't get caught up in your mage friendly fire:
At the start drag all the enemies in front of you together with pull of the abyss and trap them there with gravitic ring.
There's a few assassins that pop up on that cliff behind you so just send your warriors over to deal with them.
Get some dual haste action happening (one of the advantages of nightmare) while either dropping firestorms on the trapped enemies or using a walking bomb. Walking bombs work better with a rogue getting a fatiguing fog in there so in your case maybe just stick with the dual firestorm.
Autoattack (Dual haste) any survivors and you should be done.

If any enemy escapes the beginning pull of the abyss just be prepared to destealth him/crowd control him and just ensure he's dead.

The only video of this fight that I've got is demonstrating the bugged stealth-on-hit property for mages (got kicked out of bloodmagic etc) so it's not very good, but since you're a mage it may be still relevant:
