I really like the achievement system for the Xbox 360, and I like the integration that Fallout 3 has with Live.  It really threw my brother for a loop when I started talking to him (we're 3 states away) and I was using my computer.  (I'm 31 and my brother is 24).  I think the combined gamerscore is cool.

Thanks!

no the system they've got now is a pain I've been working for weeks on three different websites trying to get everything to work right. On Fallout 3 it was a matter of minutes and everything worked. Unlike this where nothing works.

Not going to happen. Using Games for Windows LIVE isn't a simple matter, it requires a lot of negotiation on the business side of things, and chances are Microsoft aren't interested in taking games that are already released. The only real reason you see achievements in BioWare's games is because Microsoft demands all Xbox 360 games have achievements, and there's no point in removing them from the PC versions.

Additionally, Games for Windows LIVE isn't just achievements integration, it's an entire platform standard, from things like controls, to system requirements, to installation options, gamepad support, compatibility, online features and integration, etc. While BioWare wouldn't have any trouble implementing those, their game is already finished and going back to make changes to adhere to Microsoft's standards is simply out of the question, since it would entail a huge amount of time and effort spent for what is essentially almost no benefit.

Maybe they would actually fix the damn game if it was on GFW. I would like to see it too instead of this backdoor crap achievment system they have with this webpage.. Garbage..... BTW Searanox they have already given intyo MS by realeasing the game on Xbox 360 there is actually no reason why they couldn't implement the system into GFL.

Games for Windows Live integration goes beyond the Achievements linking like the XBox 360 version has. GFWL games have to follow specific routes for game save locations, control implementation, DRM implementation, online interaction, etc. It isn't as simple as slapping a GFWL 'hook' into an app and calling it good.

Games developed for the XBox360 have their own development SDK - meaning that Microsoft just has to verify certain things before 'certifying' them for availability with the XBL logo. BioWare would have to re-code the game to conform with the GFWL standards because the PC version _is_ a different code base from the console version - they share the base content libraries and story, but the control scheme and background control libraries are completely separate.

You have to plan for GFWL integration from the ground up, period. The only reason that the XBox 360 version has XBL achievments is because of Microsofts whole 'hook' on its players for getting gamer score - otherwise the game would likely just have the normal in game achievments that exist for PC users right now (see Sacred 2, Borderlands for other games that follow this route).

It is usually non-programmers (or 'macho' programmers who think they know more than they do) that insist that something is 'easy' or that there is 'no reason why X shouldn't be because Y is already done'.

As already said, this "no reason" thing goes beyond mere politics.  Even if BioWare did get the game approved for the Games for Windows LIVE program, it'd still mean that they'd have a massive amount of work in changing the way the game handles its online authentication, achievement system, etc.  On top of that, they'd have to make sure the game was compatible with new control standards, data storage standards, code standards, the in-game overlay... the fact that they already have put significant resources into creating their own system for DLC, online user profiles, etc. makes it even more ludicrous to think they'd essentially go back and do it all over again for the sake of a few meaningless points.

I have only had problems with their current system. I'm still having problems and not just the achievements, Virtually every facet of this game is giving me trouble at least anything that has to do with the online environment. Including DLC, account creation, linking to the xbox (which still doesn't work), and so on. It amazes me that such an awesome game can have such crap account control.

GFWL is crap.

I don't ever want to see GFWL in BioWare games just because some teen wants to brag at his classmates.

Yeah I am glad Bioware spent more time and resources on the PC version of the game seeming that 70% of the threads here are about memory leaks, 100% processor issues, CTD and DLC problems that the PC verision does have. I say Money well spent Image IPB. What does that say ????

I had no problems with Games For Windows Live with Fallout 3 and I agree with the OP and would have loved to have seen this used with Dragon Age.

I don't want it so a teen can some teen can brag, I want it so I don't have to spend three days trolling through forums and websites to fix all the inherent problems so I can play the game.  I'm not a teen and while I enjoy the achievement system it not a requirement.  What is a requirement is that when I buy I game I can install and play it with minimal trouble.  My brother bought this game for the PS3 and had very similar problems.  So this about more than Achievements its about basic functionality.  Fallout 3 had it in spades, Dragon Age (while still one of my favorite games now that its mostly working) does not.
