So, provided you go renegade or just ignore the interrupt, does anyone know what governs whether Kal'Reegar dies or not? Does he actually get attacked, and drawing all the geth attention will save him? Is it just time-based, and he simply keels over and dies at some point if you're not fast enough, even if he's been safely around the corner the whole time and every synthetic on the planet is bumrushing you in the other corner of the map?

I always use the paragon interrupt during that scene and I have never had him die on me. I always thought letting him fight ended up in his death, but I'm not sure.

Interesting question. From experience I don't think it is just time based because one time I did it fairly smoothly and he ended up dead when he normally lives. I suspect he gets attacked and so there is a bit of luck involved in when he has his head up. What path you take, and making sure you kill all the closeish Geth at the start, seem to be important.

Natt, he definately can live while contributing to the fight, from my experience he usually lives, but does die on occasion.

When you talk to Kal'Reegar you need to hit the left trigger, when the left paragon trgger symbol shows up if you want to keep him alive. You tell Kal'Reegar to stand down, and watch your back. If he fights, he dies.

Thanks for clearing that up Malanek. I always go paragon anyway just in case.

It's definately safer if you want to keep him alive. If you want some added pressure, let him fight. He does seem to make the fight easier.

No, he doesn't.  He typically dies if you take too long to defeat the geth colossus, as the longer you go, the more chances there are for him to take hits.  End things quickly, and he's usually fine.

This.  Everything I've heard about Kal fighting, and everything I've seen, points directly towards this.  Longer it lasts, more likely he is to die, but if you're quick about it and you keep him covered and clear out the Geth as you move up (instead of playing a Vanguard like I do, skipping to the last person in the crowd and letting your squad deal with the in-between) then he'll survive just fine.

Hes so stupid, hes got a guided missile launcher, but thinks he cant hit the colossus when it crouches down. I just sat up and pounded it with missiles until it died, without moving an inch away from him. Id tell him I'm not surprised the Geth beat the quarians, But I wouldnt want to hurt his feelings.

It's impossible for Kal'Reegar to die, he's the damn Hero of New Canton!

Obviously someone needs to knit him a hat.
