How realistic is it that dragon age will get game of the year on some sites next month? This is not a question of whether it's your Game of the year, but rather would sites put an RPG as their top spot this time around.

Why not? Many RPGs in the last decade ended up being GOTY.

I wouldn't say it's too unlikely, and I would say it would be deserved, but...

I would image any self-respecting site will call it GoTY. Best story, at least.

There's a trend to make the latest fps the goty. Not that some don't deserve it, but I looked on some sites and some halo 3 addon is still up and running for it. Ugh. Aren't people sick of the same old crap? :/

I was astounded in 2007 when mario galaxy got it, because I actually thought it deserved it in 2007 and was thinking call of duty 4 was going to get it. The game review sites and shows surprised me. I had played almost all of the goty candidates in 2007, and it was well deserved.

Still, they don't get it right every year, and sometimes they are influenced to the pressures of hype and marketing :/

It's got a lot going for it, and it is a BioWare product so it has the brand, but...it's got some downers as well. Do these outweigh the good? Not really, at least in my opinion, but some of it definitely appears rushed and unpolished. And when you get right down to it, the Devil's in the Details, and in a competition, the details are what make the grade.

Regardless it will certainly place highly, it is a very good game.

I'm not real sure what else is on the market at the moment in terms of competition (havent been gaming much the past 16 months or so), but from the buzz that new installment of Modern Warfare is certainly up there. Hell one of the CE's comes with a pair of NV goggles that are worth damn near as much as the game. Hehe.

Everything on the MMO front this year is complete dreck, soooo..

It varies from season to season, obviously.  Frankly, I think it's a goofy comparison, MW2 isn't the same type of game as DAO, and shouldn't be really compared.  But then again, I see alot of those sites have more than a single 'game of the year'.

It's possible ign will give it goty. They gave fallout 3 goty, which was different than many other sites. I loved fallout 3 - by far the best first-person rpg I've played. It has so much style and atmosphere.

I'm crossing my fingers ;) It's been awhile I wanted to play a game a second time right after beating it the first time, and still not tired of it.

Well, yeah. It will obviously win rpg of the year, but then again, there usually isn't a whole lot of competition for that title, and bioware wins it just about everytime.

i definately think so. i'd also call it RPG of the year, atleast, if not GOTY. Then again, i'm biased, i dont play many fps's, or other action games like that.

Well, based on metacritic scores, call of duty 4 has the highest. Now, not all metacritic scores dictate winners. It does dictate nominees.

For PC, we have:

91 Dragon Age: Origins

91 Batman: Arkham Asylum

90 Left 4 Dead 2

For xbox 360, we have:

94 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

92 Batman: Arkham Asylum

92 Forza Motorsport 3

91 Assassin's Creed II

90 FIFA Soccer 10

90 Left 4 Dead 2

For ps3, we have:

96 Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

94 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

93 God of War Collection

92 Braid

91 FIFA Soccer 10

91 Batman: Arkham Asylum

91 Assassin's Creed II

The Wii only has 91 Metroid Prime Trilogy (I didn't know this was out... I might pick it up!)

It's doubtful a sports or driving game will make goty. I have a feeling uncharted will probably get it this time around. Now, I've never played it, but there was a lot of snubbing going on when uncharted 1 didn't do too well and lots of ps3 people got pissed off. If that politics has any impact, it could give it a boost.

The latest call of duty probably won't get it because it's not a massive upgrade from the first modern warefare. It obviously has a chance though. I enjoyed the first one but didn't like how much I sucked at multiplayer ;) I didn't pick up the second one. I probably won't until I can get it for 29.99 :)

I never played the batman game, but it looks really good. I love that metroid style gaming, and meshing that with batman sounds like a novel idea. It looks like they got the style and atmosphere right too and it's high production quality. I might get that too one day.

It's hard to say if Dragon Age will emerge as the victor. If not, I think it'll be #2 or #3 for sure.

On any PC-specific lists, it's very probable.

It won't that will go to the most over rated game in history MW2.

FIFA10 gets GOTY anywhere, with its 100 plus bugs, and we know EA are paying for awards.

DA: O is my GOTY however, followed oddly enough by Borderlands!

That's a fairly vague question. Some sites are slanted toward certain genre's. For an RPG site, I think so. For a general site, maybe but I doubt it. Definately not the commercial sites.

For a gamer site, it should.

Yeah, the vga awards that bioware wants us to vote on are a joke. I don't know how this game is not at least a nominee for an overall game of the year. Maybe it has something to do with it not being as good on the consoles, but whatever. That just baffles me. This is only 5x better than something like mass effect, which was nominated and won some of the awards.

I think IGN slants towards RPGs. They did give GOTY to fallout 3, and many sites didn't. They'll at least nominate it.

I guess it would be a big deal if "game of the year" mattered. Its more of a "who sold the most mainstream material" award than an award about game quality and/or innovation.

I just looked at the fan goty's vs. site goty's, and it's amazing how fans consistently pick fps's. Just crazy how such a genre is favoured so much by the audience that visits their site.
