If the Quarians can survive with less than 1% of their original population while limiting their breeding, so can humanity.
Arrogance born of ignorance. We're not quarians. We're not so technologically advanced that we can create AIs on accident if we don't watch ourselves. We don't have live ships. We don't have the amount of ships that can carry our population. And we won't be given any time or resources to build any. And we don't have the kind of tech that literally enables them to constantly sustain their non-viable lives.
Besides, I cannot imagine a worst existence than what quarians have. Maybe they're so enhanced with stim tech that they can survive in their suits and not go insane. Maybe they're so alien that they can socialize without seeing each other faces for their entire lives and not commit suicide. Maybe their machine-like psychology enables them to endure a life where you have to risk death each time you want to have sex. I sure don't wish it on humanity.
The quarians were at the apex of their glory when the disaster struck, and they were thrown at the brink of survival. But they had a lot of power to begin with, and although they lost a lot of ground when they were devastated, they had ground to retreat. Humanity doesn't have such reserve. We aren't advanced. We're barely newborns. We can't afford any losses.
