I'm sure this is fairly common but from everything I've read and tried I haven't been able to get the game running. I'm not entirely sure if my VRAM is right but everything else should be accurate.
1. It’s important to identify which product is experiencing the problem.
a. Is it the console version or the PC version?
PC Version
b. Media: physical disk or digital download (and which vendor)
Mass Effect, Value Game. Disk.
2. System Details
a. Processor / Core count / Core Speed / Main RAM Amount
Intel® Core2 Duo CPU T6500 @2.10GHz 2.10GHz/
4GB RAM
b. Display Adapter / VRAM / Driver Version (just saying "latest drivers" doesn't help -- Edited: only ATI / nVIDIA cards are supported)
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD/
256 MB/
8.15.10.1968
c. Sound Adapter / Driver Version
IDT High Definition Audio CODEC/
Intel® High Definition Audio HDMI
d. Operating System (& service pack if applicable)
Windows Vista Home Premium/
Service Pack, Windows XP 2
e. Direct X Version
DirectX 10
3. Problem Details
a. When it comes to problem details, think about the five basic
questions: Who? What? When? Where? Why? Okay, so “Who?” doesn’t really
apply here, but the others do.
b. What? What is the nature of the problem that you’re seeing?
After downloading Mass Effect and Updating to Version 1.0.2 I attempted to start the game. After having the game close out just after reaching the black screen I went online and found some answers. I then went back in and changed the Compatibility to Windows XP 2 and ran the game as Administrator. While the game no longer just stopped at the black screen it began to show the General Protection Fault.
This is the full error:
General protection fault
History: GMatrix Swap() Address = 0x10bb5676(filename not found) [in C:\\Games\\Mass Effect\\Binaries\\MassEffect.exe]
Address = 0x181b12e4
c. When? When does the problem occur? Every time you engage in a particular action or only after so many hours of play?
Anytime I attempt to start up Mass Effect.
d. Where? Where does the problem occur? Is the problem localized to a particular planet or does it occur everywhere?
A black screen that appears after pressing play.
e. Why? As much as possible, can you isolate the problem to a specific set of steps?
See Part B above.
Thank you for any help that can be given. I have yet to contact EA Support in hopes that there might be someone to help me here.

TTBOMK, Intel has never made either a usable chip or a compatible driver that allows their junk to work with a UT3 game. You'll have to upgrade, either a proper game card in a desktop, or a complete, proper laptop replacement.

I had a feeling it was that. Thanks for the help.
