That's funny - were the people who were against the kind of DLC model that's in place today sleeping or something :P

Honestly, the majority of posters here weren't active on the boards at all. Most of the complainers have only "woken up" because the game was released.

I know a few in my friend circuitry are against DLC though, but they didn't seem to voice their opions on it back then.

As time went by, the model for the DLC became established and there was a little outcry, but mostly from people who had registered that same day and were basically calling the developers sausage suckers to EA, so their credibility and sanity already hurt the impression of the antagonists of this movement by pure association.

Also, back then we mostly had the writers comment on the boards, so we missed out on gems by people like George here.

So, now the writers are busy, we get a taste of him. It's all good.

won't work is 'BioWare, we demand you stop DLC at once!' - because the avalance has already started and it is too late for pebbles to vote...

yes, you did (I did as well :-) )

In steam, go to "My Games", right click on "Dragon Age: Origins" and choose "view game cd key".

that will actually list THREE keys.

the first two keys, with dashes in them, are the "premium content" keys...

come back to this social site and log in. Under the profile menu on the left, it has "redeem promo code" and "register games".

the keys with dashes in them go in the box on the "redeem promo code" page, the key without dashes goes in the box on the "register games" page.

then start dragon age, and click the log in button. log in with the SAME details you use to log into this site.

then go to the downloadable content bit and you should be able to download all sorts of fun stuff.

On top of that the game is already being sold at 40$ everywhere, which is 10$ more than preorders. Why punish loyal fans and early adopters who preordered by making it up to 25$ more expensive than most? and this only 2 weeks after game launch.

If you have the digital deluxe edition on steam, you can redeem the CD keys for the game (available through the steam context menu) with the social site to enable the dowload of Warden's Keep and Shale. If you have trouble with that, please contact support.

Yes I redeemed both of them and played them. My question was about how you say you are giving them for free, while I paid 15$ for both shale and warden's keep not 3 weeks ago. (Deluxe preorder.)
It is like you encourage people to not preorder, because the prices seem to drop and DLCs are given for free very shortly after game launch. Or am I missing something?

Shale is free, with any edition of the game.

No preorder was required for either shale or warden's keep.

That is fair and valid feedback and I'm sure the DLC team is much more willing to listen to something like this as opposed to an unqualified 'DLC is teh suck' post :)

I too have no problems with DLC, and my game came with WK so I can't say I've seen the "ad" myself, but...I will offer this feedback. The ads need to never happen again, if for no other reason than I know of at least 2 people who will not buy DAO because of it (yes, I know, stupid, and I keep trying to tell them that but...) and it's been the subject of inumberable webcomic jokes and various other issues. I think it would be unwise to advertise for DLC in game again, plus, it is very immersion-breaking; other than that, I love the DLC, keep it coming! :P

You have, I'm sure...  It's the guy you get the quest from, those of us without the cotent purchased see a small, simple "Buy Content" tag attached to "Yeah, I'll help you" or whatever.

Frankly, it seems silly to be so angry about it when you look at it in that light...  The way some people respond, you'd think there's some sort of billboard.

Tossing in my two cents. It's damn annoying, but I can deal with it. I feel like this is going to turn into Nagware though. Every time I come to the camp, I have to see this quest I can't get without actually paying some cash and downloading.
/twocents

personally, don't mind have DLCs added to games, everyone has the ability to judge whether to it's worth the cash or not.  Didn't think warden's keep was worth it, but got digital deluxe from steam so meh, currently not planning on another DLC, especially with only 1hrs worth of content. (not sure why people compare it to coffee, $5 for coffee anyway? my usual medium double-double at tim's isn't anywhere near that....).

Anyway, just an annoyance here caught my eye, and not sure if we have a firm comment from devs on.  Are you gonna harrass us to purchase DLC content in-game as you did with Warden's Keep? FYI, i'm gonna be ticked off if you patch my game to include an npc on in game that nags me to buy a DLC (for any future DLC releases). I really hope this isn't the direction you are heading, considering the amount of work that went in creating the immersive world in a single player game for it to be broken like that.

no, 7$ when purchased alone.

If you bought the digital collectors edition, you got wallpapers, soundtrack and warden's keep. If you feel that was not worth 15$, which is your right, you need to ask yourself why you did still buy it and didn't just wait until a few weeks later when there is the inevitable sale that happens for almost any game.

Sorry, but the description on the steam store is quite precise regarding what is included with which edition and you made the choice to buy what was offered.

If find it a little bit dishonest to come here, after you bought the product - well knowing it's content, make inaccurate and intentionally misleading statements and then expect to have a discussion in which your concerns are taken seriously.

No, Watcher's Keep is $7. The Stone Prisoner is $15 ONLY for people who bought Dragon Age: Origins secondhand/used/on E-bay/from their grandmother/bestfriend/brother.

You are conviently forgetting the Soundtrack, Bergan's Honor, Final Reason, and the Grimoire of Frozen Wastes. Those also came with the collector's edition, so you paid 15 bucks for Warden's Keep, Bergan's Honor, Final Reason, the Grimoire of Frozen Wastes, and the digital version of the Soundtrack. Seems reasonable to me. Edit: oh yeah, and as Georg said, the cool wallpapers, which I have rotating in my Windows 7 wallpaper cache as we speak, how could I forget those?

Actually I haven't. Warden's Keep came with my game, that was the point I was making, I have not seen it.

Yeah it's lame , they really stopped the flow of the game when they redirect the player away from the game to go and buy points to open all the avaible missions or quests, found it a rather cheesy way to try and sell something.Next time they really should just send out a game with all the missions and quests , all the armor etc. It just doesn't work.
However they did a good job with the game but buying missions when you already bought the game then they ask you for another $15.00+a smaller fee of $7.00 =$22.00 add 70.00 for the CE game and you got $92.00 plus perhaps a guide to help sort you out for $32.00 for CE walkthrough you could be looking at as much as $122.00 to play. It's too steep.
The more I think about it the funnier it becomes , they actually try to sell there customers something in the middle of their game. What is the world of gaming coming too?.LOL what's in the future, you'll go talk to a NPC and that opens up a pizza add and redirects your game to there web site so you can order online.(oops hope i don't open pandoras box on that comment).Well we can only hope they won't try that tactic in there next game.

Sorry spore, but your numbers are wrong.

Because the only piece of content you can buy at this point if you bought ANY edition of the game is Warden's Keep and that costs 7$ - and that is included in the digital collectors edition as well, at no additional cost.

To get all content in the game (except preorder incentives), the maximum you have to pay at this point is the price of the regular edition +7$.

I've never in my life seen a forum with so many apologists for DLC.

I'd have to guess that the majority are Bioware shills.

Make no mistake - DLC at launch is BS.

In response to a number of the last few posts IT'S CALLED "WARDENS KEEP"

The way I see it is this:

1) Nobody can argue that Dragon Age without any DLC was an unfinished game, or did not have enough content to justify the price tag

2) Hating EA is cool

3) People love demanding free stuff

So naturally, even though nobody is making you buy WK, and not having it doesnt' really make you miss out on any content outside of it, except for stopping that guy in your camp from looking like he just spotted Solid Snake or is a WoW refugee, GOD DAMN ARE WE MAD!

Oh wow now you jump to the presumption that I am being dishonest...
Seeing the 15$ difference in price, I bought the deluxe edition thinking the extra price was for BOTH dlcs. If I had known I was buying Items and soundtracks, I would have simply bought the regular edition + DLC separately.
I honestly thought the sountrack/wallpapers/and the couple of items were free incentives to encourage us to preorder. It never crossed my mind that I was buying them!
It was my fault for not reading the details carefully, no mistake about that. But I really don't appreciate how you jump to conclusions about my honesty or lack thereof. I have been polite to you and supportive of the game, I don't see why you feel the need to resort to disrespectful comments.
Anyway, I am out... I have no interest in getting into a flame war with developers.

Warden's keep was short I was for sure disappointed about that. However did I regret spending 7 dollars? Hell no, arguably that 7 dollars made the 60 dollar purchase I made all the better because I got a kick ass ability that restored mana and a chest to throw all the stuff I couldn't carry in my bags into.
Bioware has always been a great company, and they have always done great work. Dragon Age is really pretty, and reminds me of Star wars KOTOR but with better graphics and in a dark medieval setting. You don't need the stuff but it sure makes it more fun!

If your talking about the pretty graphics then your obviously talking about the PC version then.Image IPB
