You mean a battle without any spells? Hm.Pipboy3billion wrote...
I know, but if we're doing a prebuff comparison, then I think a sans special ability comparison should be considered as well.
Bard, 140HP, 25% physical resistance, 4½ APR, 3½ of which for 1D8+15, the last one for 1D8+14
FC, 157HP, 20% physical resistance, 4 APR, 3 of which for 1D6+31 (the bard wants a Ring of Freedom against further effects from this weapon), the last one for 1D6+17.
I'm ignoring THAC0 and AC for high level characters for now. Also, the HP are not definite. There are quite a few items that improve your HP and I didn't use any for these numbers.
Obviously, the bard is going to lose.
In BG1, that's going to be difficult. In BG2, easily.Well, I'm playing a canon party, but I'm starting to see how the blade can hold his own. Can he be a frontliner, though? I want my protagonist to be in the #1 slot, charging into battle in front of everyone. How would/can this work in BG1 as well?
Just coincidentally, the blade is the bard kit with the lowest PP score. However, I would have to give up PP, being NG.
Oh, I've done similar before, considering that in BG1, you should have no idea of combat, while Jaheira and Khalid are seasoned warriors (I actually gave them a really big head start XP wise but didn't give them any further level ups - Jaheira got one or two later on, in ToB).I can see the protagonist getting lost in the stories in all the books at Candlekeep (hence the Bard class), then turning to the more combat-oriented Blade kit by BG2 once he realized that things were starting to get serious. This could be a reason to keep him on the back lines in BG1, as he's still wet behind the ears, though I would consider this to be a cop out.
