Fallout 3 had an amazing ending. Ron Pearlman's upbeat but pessimistic monologue was brilliant.

I think the biggest anti-climax game ending for me recently was Borderlands. I know the game is about the loot rather than the story but when I finished the final main quest I sat there thinking 'WTF that was it?"

I loved the ending for both Star Wars Force Unleashed games. First game was bittersweet for the light side end, then the second game almost had me in tears with Juno (yes I'm a closet sap).

I tend not to have very strong reactions to epilogue cards, even though I appreciate when they tell you what happens to characters.

My picks are:

- Final Fantasy VIII: The whole part at the end with Squall lost in some wasteland dragged on a bit too long, but I enjoyed the part where you see the characters having a party, I actually realized I didn't loathe Irvine as much as I thought I had throughout the game. When it cuts over to Rinoa and Squall finally getting to kiss as the camera pulls out and Balamb Garden flys away, I found it immensely satisfying.

- Saint's Row 2: It wasn't an amazing emotional moment, but I just felt that my character finally got what they had been working for from the start once they said 'this is our city now, we can do whatever the !@#$ we want". It felt a little bit epic since I recalled her coming ashore in nothing but a prison jumpsuit and at the end she was decked out in a designer suit with a garage full of pimped out sportscars and an armoury to rival a PMC outfit. It was a nice feeling of accomplishment.

- Halo Reach: This is probably the only ending I've enjoyed where your character ends up getting killed. It was quite bittersweet, particularly when Dr Halsey is talking about close you came to victory and that she wishes you could have lived to see it, all while you see a time passage where the dead earth around your helmet slowly transforms back to green and your helmet weathers while new settlers are landing in the background.

The BioWare games I have played all the way through all had pretty decent endings:
KotOR: Not necesseraly the ending itself but the whole starforge episode was great
Jade Empire: Decent final chapter
DA:O: Possibly the best ending in a video game
DA2: A fitfull ending (and I was lad that i ti was over ... kidding :))
ME1: Very well done, an ending point and still leaving room for the rest of the trilogy + the music!
ME2: I was glad we finally get back to the real enemy (and screw TIM)

Other games with good endings:
The Witcher 1
Assassins Creed games (wtf moment every time)
Deus Ex: I am not through HR yet but the endings of the first game were all great and really made you think. The ones of the second game were also good but not as good as the first.
Gothic 2: I didn't see the twist coming but it was right in line with the characters, also one of the few games that lets you chat with your friends before the game ends.

Haha, another one that comes to mind is the rather old game "Little Big Adventure 2". I have never seen a longer ending in my life.

That is all I can think of from the top of my head.

Now you mention it, Xardas´s ending from Gothic 3. Mankind and orcs no longer at the whim of Innos and Beliar.

Ryu's ending from Street Fighter 2: Walking off into the sunset after beating up a bunch of dudes and some Chinese woman. Good times.

Mass Effect 2: I was genuinely panicked a couple of times when I thought I got people killed.

Halo: Not so much the ending but the race to get out in the Warthog was great. I'd give honorable mentions to Halo 3, ODST and Reach here too.

In agreement with Druss minus SF:2 or did I have Alpha 2...point is bison always whooped my ass at the end till I lowerd it to one star. And for that my ending was "Hahaha try to beat it on a harder level next time" Yeah, well **** you too Sega.

FF8, one of the few game that actully ended in the series with few questions. Funny enough most JRPGs minus the Fire Embleam games are like this.

I would like to say MGS but none of those never had a really "good" ending. Tiberian Dawn had a good ending, as NOD you blow up DC, or as GDI you "kill" Kane. Soul Caliber has good engind based on some of the characters, same with Mortal Kombat. Saints Row 2, I rather liked as well the town is mine. I'm sure I'll think of others to add later.

I tend to like the endings of Mass Effect 1, Halo CE (that warthog run stills gives me tingles), and the darkside ending in KOTOR.

Ah yeah the Darkside ending was pretty bad ass. I felt the light side one was a letdown. A few medals vs an Empire......hmm.....

I thought the ending to Deus ex: Human revoultion was actually very good, tbh. All the endings can be considered canon, all of them can fit in with what happens next in Deus ex. I thought they did a good job with it.

I liked all the Fallout's endings (excluding that trash called Fallout: Brotherhood of steel) I really liked ME1 and 2's endings, Dragon age 1's, Deus ex 1, Metro 2033, Alan Wake, and Half life 2 episode 2.

Metro 2033 good ending, ME ending and Halo Reach.
Also while not the ending of the game the last hour and a half of Bioshock from Ryan to Fontaine was fantastic.

Fallout 3 (even though it was a bit of a cliché ending), Assassin's Creed (1), Metro 2033 (the music, the atmosphere, the excellent Russian voice acting... awesome) and Dragon Age Origins.

Yes the ending was horrible. But at least you could go back for playthrough 2 and 2.5. It's not for everybody, but for those who can't get enough, it's something to do even when you've finished the game.

Satisfying endings? Well I really liked some of the ones in Bloodlines. Stabbing the pompous prince was awesome. Giving the somewhat confused Anarchs the finger felt good too. There was one ending that wasn't so satisfying though :)

I also agree that Saints Row 2 had a good ending. It's not a deep and emotional masterpiece of a game, but for what it is, the ending is just right.

Red Dead Redemtion had a good ending I think, mainly because you actually played the ending out so to speak, after John Marston is killed the rest of the game is the ending in my opinion, the long ride to Edgar Ross and then the satisfaction of taking him down.

Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate series, Dragon Age Origins, KOTOR, Mass Effect 1. Uncharted 1 and 2, Chrono Trigger, Ogre Battle 64, Dragon Force, Persona 3, Final Fantasy X, Xenogears, Arkham Asylum, Arcanum, and Fallout 2.

All these games were satisfying because I felt like I accomplished something and they left me wanting more.

Almost forgot. I agree, RDD had an epic ending.

Mass Effect 2 had a great set up for ME3 as an ending.

FFXIII had a great ending, but now it seems less cause they're giving it a sequel :\\ (I'll still get it)

Halo 3. The reason I got a 360. I still maintain that that every game with the Halo title to release after 3 is a disappointment and a shame. The story was concluded, and in top form.

I think a majority of game endings are very good. There are not many I would say are unsatisfying.

Top endings:
1) DA:O (any of them)
2) Silent Hill 2 (The original was a more terrifying game, but SH2 had one of the most harrowing endings known to man)
3) Ico
4) Halo 3
5) Max Payne 2

Awful endings:
1) DA2
2) Fable 3
3) CoDMW

Planscape: Torment for me. From the meeting with TTO to the end of the final movie was just epic* (although this applys to the rest of the game as well )

* = although an overused word i feel it really applys in this case

My "hero" bled out after driving an axe through a demon's breastplate..
