Ive had Mass Effect 2 since the day It came out. I have never had a lick of trouble with the game until now.

For some reason (out of the blue it seems) the game has begun crashing to desktop. I have not changed any hardware in my PC in about  4 years. I upgraded to Windows 7 x64 about 8 months ago, but the game has run smoothly for those 8 months. (and I played the game pretty regularly over that time.) I have EVERY dlc installed
(including the Blackstorm\\Terminus Armor DLC I got with my preorder) except the companion costume packs. This week my game has started to crash to desktop every hour or so after two years of virtually no problems. I am not sure what has caused this change.

Here are my specs

Windows 7 x64
Intel Core 2 Quad
Nividia GeForce 8800 GT
2 gigs of RAM
Direct x 11

Its now gotten worse.

Im playing Project Overlord and every time I try to start the Prometheus Station mission the game crashes. I can pick my party and gear but as soon as I start the mission the game crashes.

I have UAC turned off completely. I recently updated my video drivers.

      Crashes to Desktop
2. When did the problem start occurring?
      This Week. Ive made no signifigant changes
3. Where does your problem occur?
      The crashes I remember happened on the final battle of Prison ship Purgatory and Transition to Prometheus Mission on Project Overlord.
4. What are the steps in replicating the problem?
     
Purgatory I was playing a Male Vanguard. I shot a Blue Suns Legioneer as he was entering through the door that reinforcements spawn through with a Evisorator Shotgun with Incindiary Ammo.

Overlord I could pick my squad and my gear but as I soon as I click the button to start the prometheus mission I crash.
Playing as Female Infiltrator equipped with Mantis\\Maddox\\Tempest\\Carnifex\\Arc Projector
Miranda has Phalanx\\Tempest
Legion has Pulse Rifle\\Widow

5. Have you modified your game in any way?

Got it working. I thought I had just updated my video drivers but I hadn't.

2 things...
1) if you pick Legion on the Overlord mission it can cause a crash either going into the missions or on mission select screens.
2) If the crashes started out of the blue, when previously it was working fine on a driver, you MAY be having other issues and the driver change just lessened the problem for now.

The driver may be the problem.  Nvidia drivers have been pretty horrible lately, especially on older cards like the 8800 GT.  Try rolling the drivers back to what you had previously (or driver version 258.96 or 197.45)

Also, Windows is known to be very much unstable, and can cause any game/program to corrupt itself and crap out for no reason. If changnig drivers doesnt help, reinstall the game.
