Hi,

I
bought DA2 a couple of days ago and I was really enjoying it until last
night when I came back to the game and my saved game is CORRUPT, not
only my main save but BOTH the autosaves and my backup save which was
actually saved 2 hours before the others.  yet ALL the saved are
corrupt.

I did download the patch before playing (1.03 or something like that)

I'd like to know:-

1: is there anyway to recover corrupt saves

and/or

2: is this going to happen all the time or is there a way of avoiding it?

Thanks

I doubt it is going to happen all the time. I only had that happened to me once in da:o. I think corrupt saves are lost, but so far the easiest way to avoid them is to make sure that you closes your playstation properly. Also wasn't there 3 autosaves?

No, only two

There should be three or perhaps the third one is an act autosave. If you only have two corrupted autosaves you could go back and see if the third is unharmed. However, I have never had it happened in da2 and haven't seen anyone complain about it, so you could have just been extremely unlucky.

Try and press the resume option from the main menu and see if you get lucky. Else my only other advise is being carefull about when you turn off dragon age. Don't turn it off when the saving icon is there. It can be hard to miss, but that is one thing I have noticed tend to corrupt files - in other games.

This would be my advice.  You cant just hit save and then switch off the power 2-3 secs later in this game.  You have to wait a good 10-15 secs (or until the swirling saving icon is gone).  Otherwise, you run a VERY high probability of corrupting your save(s).  Once a save is corrupted, more often than not, it's gone.  Not always, but most of the time.

Thanks for the help.

Its worse than ever now, the game is not saving. well actually I get the saving game animation then also I manually save but NONE of the saved games (mine OR auto saves) actually show up on the list when I select 'load' then when I go to manually save again, none of the saved games show up and only 'new save' shows.

YET! if I quit the game and look into the ps3 saved games folder they are all there, albeit small files 56kb each. yet in game none are showing.

also now everytime I load the game its telling me the profile/options file is also corrupt.

I bought this game NEW on friday, was really enjoying the story but now I cannot play it.

please help!?!

I never do that, I'm always careful when I turn off.

Sorry you're having such problems. Maybe I've been lucky, but I haven't experienced any of what is happening to you.

At this point, I would suggest using the PS3 interface to delete ALL of the save files the game has generated thus far - and start over.

I'm always pretty careful in the way I shut the PS3 down. I always wait until the save is completed, and actually exit the game via the menu. Then I hold the PS3 button on the controller until it brings up a menu, and select "Turn off the system". It is much easier on the equipment to allow it to shut down gracefully than to use the on/off switch.

If you continue to have problems, you might need to uninstall and reinstall it. Also, make sure that your PS3 operating system software is up to date.

Good luck.

ETA: If the game's options/profile file is corrupt, I would think it very likely that you will need to re-install the game.

I would say that either somethings is wrong with your cd or worse yout playstation or perhaps something went wrong through installation. The first thing I would do is trying anohter game to ensure that it isn't your playstation. then check the cd from any mark, or scratches or something equally irratinting. Hopefully there isn't anything wrong with it. If there is try to uninstall the game (since it is broken you might as well do it) and then re-install it. If none or that works, trade your copy in at your store and say it is broken to get a new hopefully unbroken one.

While dealing with EA Technical support (for over a month) one of the many people who responded to my thread suggested that sometimes the game just writes corrupted data, and that this may be the reason that the "Supplier" trophy is not unlocking.

While it seems far-fetched and unlikely, it's possible that there's something magic about the combination of your PS3 and DA2 disc which just spits-out corrupted data during the save-game process.

I agree with ESPER: uninstall everything (in the Game Data folder, and also your Save Game folder) and reinstall DA2. If you are stil having the problem: take the disc back to the place from which you purchased it, and tell them the disc is defective. Plenty of retailers will give you a trade for the exact same thing even without a receipt (Target, WalMart, etc.) if you say it's defective.

The last thing you may want to do is repair the file system on your PS3 by entering Recovery Mode. Details on that can be found here:

http://community.us....tart=0&tstart=0

If those things don't work ... then you're out of luck.

Thanks for all the help.

I have deleted ALL the DA2 data two times now, not only all the saves but also the installed data and patch files. Yet its the same, it autosaves and I save manually and the saves are either not showing at all or the ones that do show up are corrupt.

I will now try using the recovery mode to fix any errors on the HD, after that I'm not sure what I can do.

The annoying thing about this is, when I bought it last week I played it for 4-5 hours then came back later and played for another 2 hours with no problems. since then everything is always showing as corrupt, even the damn options file now.

Real shame as I was enjoying it more than DAO.

try another game on your playstation before trying something drastic, Steve123. Just to check your playstation. If nothing is wrong with the machine I will really advise you to swap your copy of the game at the story. If you still have the receipt I am sure they will do it. (At least they would in my store - if it is not an internet store.)
and it is a shame because I personally think it is a good game.

I think the PS3 is ok, its an old one a 40gb one I upgraded to 320gb a couple of years ago.

I just played Deus Ex, F1 2010 and Mass Effect 2 fine and no saved games were damaged.
as for the DA2 thing, I just got the recovery menu open and its currently working after reporting that it had indeed found corrupt files. fingers crossed!

I thought it had worked..

I did the HD check and it found corrupt files, took it about 5-6 mins to finish then I played DA2. yet again started a new game. I saved it and shut down, came back an hour later and my game loaded! YES.. faaaantastic! so I played more, about 3-4 hours and saved it again.

Today I came back and.. here we go again, corrupt saved files, ALL 3 auto saves and all my manual saves corrupt. I'm so so angry.

The game is useless to me, I simply cannot play it and I bought it over a week ago so don't have the reciept. Very VERY disappointed as I was really enjoying the story.

I don't know what else I can do. although I feel more angry at not being able to play than angry about losing the money it cost.

Gutted :(

I advise to either check you hd once more since it did help at the first time or to simplu get a new copy. Yours seems to be the only with a this particular problem so something could be wrong there...
Alternatively if you are bold you could try to email one of the devs here in techincal support and hope they are kind enough to answer.
But besides that I think that you are out of luck if you are not getting a new copy of the game. Sorry:-(

I ran into this same issue last night. I've had the game since launch and have never had a problem. I started a new game a couple of weeks ago to have another go through legacy and go after the supplier trophy, everything was working fine. Fired it up to play last night (after not playing for a few weeks) and all my save files are corrupt - not just the newer game I had started, but my profile data and all older saves with different characters from a while back. All other games and saves work fine, but DAII appears to be totally shot. Starting a new game didn't help - once I saved, quit and tried to reload, also corrupted.

Maybe it has something to do with the new patch Sony released.

Since all my saves are toast, over the weekend I'm gonna take a shot at uninstalling/deleting all DAII game and save data, reinstalling all data and add-ons and seeing if that helps. I'll let you know what happens.

With the announcement of the new DLC I want to be able to get playing again.
