I really want to play Dragon Age Origins but am afraid of spiders. I downloaded a Spiders Be Gone mod and was wondering if anyone has used this mod and if it makes the spiders not look like spiders.

I can't speak to the mod, but as far as I can recall the only unavoidable spiders are in the werewolf ruins. Other spiders are optional, including ranger pets (which you don't have to use). So if the mod doesn't work, maybe you can get someone else to play through that one section for you?

(I have a friend who is spider phobic, so I totally sympathize. I had to watch the 3rd Harry Potter movie with her so I could tell her when it was safe to look.)

*thinks* Aren't there also some unavoidable crawlies in the Dalish origin? There are also a couple of places in the Deep Roads where they would be hard to get past.

yeh i can play the game up to where there is a random encounter while traveling from one place to another then i have to turn it off

Ah, I haven't yet played the Dalish or Dwarven noble origins. I should have thought of that.
I didn't remember spiders in the Deep Roads but it's been a while and I may have mentally replaced them with Shrieks...

Besides the ruins in the Brecilian Forest, there's unavoidable encounters with giant spiders in the Deep Roads as well. In fact, there's a boss fight with a Corrupted Spider Queen.
And then in DA2, there are spiders that are as big as elephants. I kid you not.
