Agreed. Doesn't mean we can't critique it though. Personally I think the statue doesn't look much like the concept art its supposed to be.

Edit: eh, since this is the top of the page, I might as well post the concept art.

The thing that bothers me is that even though I normally wouldn't have a problem with boobies, babyfaces, Liara, or goofy merchandising, something about all of them being thrown together...

Oh well. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I'll, ah, draw my own fanart or something.

I am not a big fan of anime/manga personally. As such, I won't be buying this statue. I suggest other people who don't like it also not buy it. This also works for foods you don't like to eat or clothes you don't like to wear. This may sound like madness, but you are not forced to buy things you don't like.

For those who do like the anime/manga style, I think thsi is a very cool statue. As I said, it isn't for me, but I know there will be people out there who'll snap this up when it is available. I like that the ME team is thinking "outside the box" and looking at merchandise that is different. Hopefully there'll be other statues, toys, trinkets, etc that come out which fans are not expecting. :)

The problem Chris, this is unfair for the Liara fans that were waiting for the first merchandising ever they could buy of her. To say "dont buy it", just dont make the problem go away.

Who is assuring us that there will be a proper statue made of her in the future, or any merchandising at all? After this statue BW can just say that there's something of Liara already so now we will concentrate on any of the other 12+ characters there, and we're left with a crappy statue that dont represent Liara's character at all, independent of the anime style

This is comming from someone who likes Kotobukiya Bishoujo statues, and anime style. But this one is really poorly made in comparation of other works from the company, the sculptor took himself too many liberties in comparation of the Concept Art, from the posture, to the breasts size and also the face, turning it into a rubbish product.
That Bioware dont guide them better on portraying the character i cant understand... she even has real eyebrows in this, i wonder how much in contact to this company Bioware really had, seems they showed them a screenshot and that was it.

Why does the first statue of her made have to be good?  I'm a huge ME nerd, but I don't get upset that every single piece of merchandise isn't to my liking; I think pigs would fly if all the merchandise was aligned with my tastes.  E.g. there's loads of merch for Star Wars and a lot of it is pretty crap but some of it is pretty good - I reckon most SW fans are perfectly content getting, say, the Boba Fett statue they like, and not getting the ones which they think are crap. *Shrugs*

If they just got a company to make a statue that looks like the in-game Liara all of this could have been avoided.

Sure, although Ducks isn't saying otherwise.  Also, at least you're critiqueing in a way that makes sense.  It's one thing to go, the bishoujo statue is meant to look like the concept drawing it's based off of, and another thing to go, the statue should look like Liara as she is in the game no matter what.  It's the latter that's silly; the way you're doing it is totally reasonable I think.

Yes, it would have. But the point you seem to be missing is that they decided to appeal to a different market for a change. If they'd have just made a statue that looked like Liara in-game, then that wouldn't have appealed to those who like Anime, for example. Why should those who like Anime miss out because you want a statue that looks like a particular way?

Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches.

The problem is, they try to satisfy too much tastes, just for a fistful of dollars. If the series was deep down the anime road right from the start I'd be cool with it (probably I wouldn't like ME as much as I do), but it is not the case.

If they made garden gnomes in the shape of Krogan's, my reaction would be similiar (although with not so much anger). The merchandise, which travels to areas with no taste or aesthetic value, is just filthing your own nest for me.

A different market = not Mass Effect fans?

Hell, they're not getting the anime fans because even some of those are pissed off with the far-too-baby-faced Liara. Then to bring it down to a low denominator, they're not even winning over people who like ****** since (if you've checked Facebook) even they're pointing out that they're just stupidly huge. Then obviously they're not winning over Liara fans since it looks nothing like Liara, doesn't really reflect her personality in any way and can just be a random asari in her lab coat.

As if ME was SOOOO unpopular, that the getting the interests of pedo-anime fans is necessary for the financial success. I don't know the numbers, but the extra income coming from around-a-vide-game merchandise can't be much more than 1.5% of overall income, can it.

but after all what do I care, goodnight to ya all.

Personally, I don't see what the problem is. If someone has a taste for this kind of thing, they'll buy it. And if no one does, they won't do this again. Just vote with your wallets people.

Of course there will be. I'm just saying that on the whole the statue has pissed off a load of people which would have been easily avoidable if it didn't look like ... well ...

...it's not even so much the fact that it's anime, just the gross ******, baby face and well ... it looks nothing like Liara besides being an asari and the outfit.
