Is there any way to remove the music on the main menu, character creation, etc, without affecting the rest of the game's music? Any file I can rename or modify or anything?

(Please refrain from posting replies such as: turn off your speakers).

hey Ark,

i had luck by first listening to what music was playing on the menus, then hunting down the traks in the Music / Music_X1 / Music_X2 subfolders of the primary \\Neverwinter Nights 2\\ installation

then just rename the ones you don't like:

nx2_mus_maintheme_STOPLAYING.bmu - that's the blaring fanfare of SoZ, eg.

(you can mix & match by copying and renaming files, though there's probly a .2da that does this properly .. but be careful cause this is the install folders here, so suggest keeping a textfile of any changes)

Thanks kevL, I'll try that and see how it fares. Do I need a specific program to listen to .bmu files, or will any music player work?

I replaced the main menu/character creation music in Risen Hero.

Find a music file you want to play. Name that file "nx2_mus_maintheme" Place that file in the C:\\Documents and Settings\\<your user name>\\My Documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\music_X2

This will replace the file without having to go into your installation folder. Files in the my documents folder will override files in the installation folder. So all you have to do is remove the file and the original and quite horrible SOZ music will return.

The music file needs to be in the .bmu format. There is a tool on the vault to turn a mp3 file into a bmu file.

i'm using VLC but a drag & drop onto Windows Media Player seems to work also.

To elaborate on Shaughn's info: if you want a trak silent (not replaced) you could create an empty text file in the appropriate MyDocs->music folder, and just name it the same as the soundfile in the Install folder (keeping the Installation clean)

( there are a couple of .wav files in the installation that might not work from Override tho .. the very very first menu music is one of them, along with a *click* sound - i assume these need to be called before Override gets accessed )

I tried this and it seems to work, thanks both for the help!

Thanks very much for this older thread. It gave me the file name of the despicable SoZ fanfare which I had to replace.

Using Winamp to do a bit of checking of the files in the music directories, I found the file that is the original NWN2 menu music:

<NWN2 install directory>\Music\mus_ruins.bmu

I copied it to where Shaughn78 said in post 4 of this thread.

Now I won't be tempted to kill the game as it starts up.

:)

What I simply did was create a random file called "nx2_mus_maintheme.bmu" and put it in the "music_x2" folder in the Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2 folders.

Basically it overrides that theme with that file, since that file is nothing (0kb) , no music plays and you can hear the damn voice packs in peace. ;)

Though before that, I used to have the MotB theme which is far more atmospheric and calm. I also replaced the main menu background with the MotB one. It's easier on the eyes.
