Okay, so I decided a while ago I was going to create a DudeShep and a FemShep for each class, and then see how many of them made it through ME2 before ME3 came out.  You know, since I want to experience the game from every angle and get a broad range of import scenarios ready.

*cough*

Anyhoo, after dicking around with the character creator for hours, I finally got some results I could be satisfied with.  Behold, the fruits of my obsession:

Image IPB

As you can see, most of them haven't even touched down on Eden Prime yet (herp-a-derp).  But, as I was sitting in lecture the other day letting my mind wander (I don't pay five thousand dollars a semester to pay attention dammit), something rather odd dawned on me.

Most of my Sheps are on the paler side, have dark hair and brown, deep-set eyes, square jaws, round faces, thick eyebrows, pronounced foreheads, big noses, wide and high cheekbones, and small-ish mouths.  The ladies have understated lip gloss, shy away from blush, and all have the same damn eye make-up.

Why does that sound so damn familiar?  I swear that I--

... Oh.

Subconsciously, I'm a narcissist.

Vanity is the greatest sin (or whatever the Bible classefied it as) is it not?

Not if your subconscious does it.

Only one of those looks like me on purpose.

I've also noticed some subtle similarities b/w my Shepards and myself (light light brown skin, thick eyebrows, etc.). Which is why I now try to make my newer Shepards significantly different from myself.

All my characters look like any one of my many different personalities.

You're not alone. I can never make any shep that i like that doesn't have similar facial structure, hair style, colour to myself. It just looks wrong. Also i always make them look like a 'tough'guy or a seen a lot of **** guy type.... Didn't realise it until now..

Something like that. Though vanity and pride are more active rather than subconscious.

That said, your little epiphany isn't too hard to believe. We are to some degree aware of what we look like, and impart our appearance since it's the one we tend to be more comfortable with. We want to impart qualities we like in ourselves on others. You simply followed that through.

Hilariously enough, I can't make a custom Shepard for that very reason. I can't make a Shep I feel comfortable with because it looks too dissimilar to me. That isn't to say I want a Shep to look like me out of conceit, but merely because I have the options to change his appearance. So I go with the default appearance, since I had no part in his design. He is another face in the crowd, rather than a projection of me. Haha

Tell that to the guy guarding the gates of heaven before he throws you down the deepest pits of hell!

But honestly. I suppose when you are making that many Shepards, you will end up making some of them based slightly on yourself without even knowing it. The mind has to draw inspiration from somewhere.

Out of my 8 Males... only Jack (avatar) looks like Jack, closest one too him is probably Ash and that's only because he has same hair style (albeit dark brown/black).

I think am gonna have to get round to doing a similar collage of my Sheps. Would be interesting to see how varied they are.

Eh, none of my Shepards look like me. I either use Sheploo for my dudes, or go on masseffectfaces and "borrow" one of the face codes from there for FemSheps.

When I imported my only Shepard into ME2 I remade him..........Only to realize he was exactly the same when I was done.

I made my femshep on my perfect playthrough (yes, I planned one where I wasn't going to screw up any decisions) look like myself. If I can't go to space then I'm going to live vicariously through a computer version of me.

I know what you mean. All my Shepards have more or less the same facial structure... which is the only one I find it tolerable to look at for 30+ hours... which is somewhat modeled after my own. Narcissism FTW.

I always have problems with making my FemSheps' faces look 'right'. Their cheeks are either too gaunt or their cheekbones too wide, their mouths seeem too fishy or whatever. I guess I'm just bad at working with the view angles the character creator gives me :(

All my Shepards tend to have blue eyes, large nose bridges and thick eyebrows, just like myself.

Yeah, my first femshep ended up with a duck's bill instead of a mouth and I only realised this too late to change it. I swear she looked normal when I was making her :|

Wait, you're a gi---I kid, I kid. Hasn't been long enough for me to forget this time. ;)

None of my BioWare characters look anything like me, though: Sheploo, Beardhawke, Longhairrevan... hell, even my Warden is white as sin. In a series I'm not nearly as much invested in, Fallout, my characters do look more like I do, even though I loathe the character creator in those games. Guess it could also be me creating characters that don't go against the lore in any way or shape, but still...

Also, thanks for reminding me I should start playing DS2 sometime soon, that game has been gathering dust in my closet for far too long now.

One of my Shepard's looks like me..remotely, I stole the face code though.

The rest are women so that would be difficult.

Number 6 is actually supposed to look like Freddie Mercury.

Good to see I'm not the only one that does this, though.  Even when it's unintentional.

I have seen that one on the faces database... I immediately thought you stole it.

Quiet, Vader.  Finding out you used to be Anakin made you not cool anymore.
