So like a fool i somehow walked right past the Temepst SMG during Tali's recruitment misison. I'm a good deal past that point and i don't want to load an old save. I'm wondering if i could use gibbs editor or coalesced.in to unlock the Tempest. The Shuriken is weak. Thanks before hand!

You can actually pick up the Tempest at several points during Tali's recruitment mission. If you miss it the first time, you can pick it up later in the room before Tali unlocks the door for you (there is an Assault Rifle upgrade and wall safe in this room as well). You may be able to pick up in later points as well.
I believe the Shiruken actually does more damage per shot than the Tempest, but its three-round burst is more inaccurate than the Tempest's 5-round burst, so that may be why it seems weaker.

This editor allows you to change many things, including your picked up guns and what you picked on the collector ship. You can also fix the Conrad bug and a few others.....warning no gaurantees on it not messing up import, but it shouldn't.....and it is addictive to use and just tweek a character a bit...hehehehehehe.
It is the one I use, and so far I really like what I can do with it, like giving my latest Adept the AR spec at the very beginning, plenty of money and minerals so I can buy what I want when I want it and don't have to probe planets.

If you have (or obtain) the Kasumi : Stealing Memories DLC you will acquire the Locust SMG, which is way better than the Shuriken and the Tempest IMO. It's more like an assault rifle really - nice and accurate, no muzzle drift and holds a decent amount of ammo.
