Does the Legacy Hawke Key Scale up as you level?

I've done Legacy on two playthroughs that were at the end up the game, and got my key, and was a little disappointed that since I had otherwise beaten the game, I couldn't use it anymore.
I just started a new playthrough, and am trying to decide the best time to play Legacy. I'm thinking in Act 1, just so the storyline is a little different (sibling not having left as opposed to coming back just for the quest), but I'm wonderin, if I get the key at level 10, will if level up with me to remain somewhat powerful for the rest of the game? Or will I only have my awesome customized weapon for like, 2 levels before I have to replace it with something better?
Anyone know?

It will be adjusted to the level of your character when you get it and stays that way for the rest of the game. But it is quite a powerful weapon for the current level, so it might be useful for a few levels, before it is outclassed.

I'm not sure, but I think that mod would add a evolving modifier and remove the +4 item level property.

The Hawke's key is scaled to be an item level that is equal to your level +4, but does not scale. Check the Legacy link in my sig for more information.

Yes, it would. The weapon would be noticably weaker with the evolving property at the time you accuire it. Basically, you would only benefit from it, if you accuire the weapon sometime before you hit lvl.23-25 (depending on how much XP you would accumulate throughout the game and what lvl. you would reach by the end of the game). You wold benefit the most from evolving property, if you would play through Legacy sometime in Act1, since the weapon would not become obsolete after about 7 level-ups later.

Thanks for all the answers. Does anyone happen to have an opinion on the best point in time to do legacy, then?
Beauty of Legacy is theres a nice feature in it where you can go back to the regular game after you start the first section and go back anytime.
I usually do it in ACT 3
But I once started it in Act 2 and finished it in Act 3.
I think once more dlc comes out I will do it ACT One some more because the ending is rather poignant there.
For the best gear stats........ACT 3. You also get more gold too.

I would recommend you get to it, once you hit lvl.24. That way, you will get the best possible stats for all the unique items, except for The Hawke's Key, wich actually doesn't have a limit.
This is pretty late in the game though, so you won't get as much use for the items, as, if you would complete Legacy sometime in Act 2 for example. But, if you want the highest possible stats for the armor set and unique accessories, you should play it once you are lvl.24+. Your choice.

I tend to do it mid act 2 since I start to miss bethany by then, and your romances should be mostly established for referencing through companion banter.
If you are looking for strickly money and items, then later the better. Need rogues wth enough skills to unlock everything, and high level will give some extremely powerful items.

Thanks for the tip about the companion banter.
I'll probably plan to wait till at least Act 2 to do it, and maybe hold off to see if any future dlc's are announced and see how those fit in. I was lucky enough with my first Origins playthough, that it was after RtO came out, so I could play all the dlc's during the game, rather than in the post-campaign save. I'd like to get a couple playthroughs of DA2 that are similar.

Only downside is one door that you can't pick then because its Master-Level, but that's not such a loss.
