While we have seen a mere handful of decent or acceptable Batarians, the bulk majority we have met in the game have either been slavers, mercs out to kill us and terrorists. I think that right there is all the explanation for the hate against Batarians. There are individual Batarians that I think are alright, however, on the whole I can't stand the species for the above mentioned reason.

Your statement, even in the ME universe, is wrong. It's nice of you to judge the Batarians and condemn to death as a species unless they want to become more like humans, especially when you know barely anything about them. Really, it's very open-minded of you.

I actually like the batarians, but our ideological differences just don't compute. conflict is inevitable. The batarians that leave the hegemony (that aren't trying to kill me of course) are usually ok, but they are still VERY abrasive toward humans.

Since they are rude, usually portrayed as killers and crooks, they are perceived as bad. To me they are just another culture with a different look on things. We can't live in peace, but I think they are pretty cool.

The Batarians are hated because outside of the Reaper conflict, they are humanity's biggest enemy. Three of Shepards possible backgrounds also give the main character issues with the Batarians. If Shepard is a War Hero or Ruthless, he fought against them during the Skyllian Blitz. If he's a colonist his family was murdered by Batarians. You can't really blame a Colonist War Hero for example (and by extension, the player) for hating all things Batarian. Additionally you are presented with hardly any Batarians that give Shepard or the player a reason to view them as one dimensional villains worthy of anything other than cranium ventilation. Most Batarians the player run into are either mercs, terrorists or pirates who either outright hate humanity or just generally act like d**ks when interacting with Shepard.

I respect that you have an opinion, but I feel it isn't based entirely in fact. Due to the Hegemony's tight control of the batarian homeworld, there could possibly be incredibly nice batarians that Shepard just hasn't met. Maybe a lot of batarians are angry and spiteful because their relatives are back on the home planet and can't be smuggled out, à la escapee North Koreans who can't get into contact with their family back home. Maybe they're angry because people view them as angry, instantly stereotyping them, so they become very cynical by nature. Who knows?

I just don't find it fair to blanket term a race because of a poor government that most certainly needs to be overthrown, and a few hardass mercs.

I've yet to see any reason to like the Batarians. The entire race has been presented in a bad light but I think that is more for the player to judge.

That being said, I don't take kindly to

Mercenaries, Slavers and Pirates of any race or kind. (Even humans)
Proxy Wars and attacks on peaceful colonies by Mercenaries, Slavers and Pirates.
Being Poisoned by a Batarian Bartenders.
Asteroids being guided to impact with human cities.
Missiles being launched at human colonies.
Cultural slavery.

I have spared or even saved the lives of a few Batarians on Omega, so I don't hate the entire race. But when every encounter is marred with dishonorable acts it's pretty damn hard to not hate the Batarians.

Still peace has to start from somewhere. Otherwise it's like with the israelis and palestinians, endless cycle of violence and conflict.

Just kidding, I have no dislike or hatred towards them; I helped them when could like on Omega etc.. I don't know what this killed 300k Batarians thing is because haven't been keeping as upto date with info but if I'm supposed to have done something like that then I will pretend was Conrad Verner who did it in my mind and somewhere along the lines he became uber powerfull, killed them all while pretending to be me and I'm getting the blame. Or I will just stick my fingers in my ears and go "tra la la la" at that point in the game.

If it were possible and up to me.... I would save all the species in the ME universe from the Reapers... I beleive in a thing called Homeostasis

There is a balance in the universe and if it is tipped too much... even if the Reapers are beaten there is a chance that galactic civilization as a whole will colapse....

There needs to be a good balance...

I am realistic and I do not think I will be able to save everyone... I need to make the right choices to make sure everything is not thrown out of whack....

Honor is subjective my friend, not that I am saying you are wrong. You are completely in the right, at least within your own culture to hate them and even wage war against them if you wish.

Although I have to say, Bioware made me confused a bit when the batarian on Omega commented on my honor. Do batarians follow an honor system? Do they have a caste, or class system? (obvious slaves are not "people" in the normal regard, but I am talking about the general population.)

If so are the Batarian pirates honorless? Or does said honor only count if you surrender? There is much that needs to be cleared up.

We also have to consider that despite their government system seeming bad, doesn't mean the people (or even the leaders) are bad.

Its all perspective and bad blood. Of course I could be wrong.

I would enjoy it if Batarians did come to aid Humans (somehow), I wonder how many people who hate the Batarians would actually turn their aid down. Doubt would happen but would amuse me if did.

The Batarians are basically the Klingon from Star Trek before the Klingon got a more balanced portrayal. They're hated because they are always presented as villains in the story.

A Batarian squad mate in ME3 who isn't a slaver, terrorist or an all around @sshat would go a long way towards changing that.

I'm inclined to believe the Batarians wouldn't lift a finger. However should they decide to help I would accept their help. Old enimies can form new ties when faced agains a common foe.

Or I could be complely wrong and I'll find a dagger in my back.

Given that the Batarian Hegemony supports pirates/terrorists in their attacks against human colonies, (not to mention the institutionalized slavery) a human would have every reason to want to see their government die.   Of course that doesn't apply to each and every batarian, but eh people can be irrational.

Batarians claim racism through enslavement is part of they're culture. Thing is, the only slaves we've seen are Humans, not aliens. Has anyone seen the batarian controlled planets and they're descriptions? Yeah, not pretty, they're mean evil bastards.

I personally hope the Reapers take them all out, and seeing that the "Cannibal" Husks are huskified Batarians. Bye bye Batarians, I won't miss them. nobody else won't either.
